In lacrosse, attack and midfielders need a short stick measuring between 40 and 42 inches. Defensive and midfield players should try a longer shaft of 52 to 72 inches. Goalies can have a stick between 40 and 72 inches based on their preference. Youth players need a stick they can handle comfortably.

In lacrosse, a short stick is used by both middies and attackmen. According to official US Lacrosse Rules, the shaft of the short stick must be 30 inches. The complete stick (head and shaft) must be between 40 and 42 inches. The width of the head for a short stick must be between 6.5 and 10 inches.

In lacrosse, it’s highly recommended that the combined stick length needs to be equal to the height of the player, and never taller. If a player is struggling with his stick skills, then maybe it's time to cut down the shaft a few inches. Goalies are allowed by rule to have a combined stick length anywhere between 40” to 72” long.
