William Shatner May Get 'Star Trek 11' Cameo

Friday, December 21st, 2007

Roberto Orci, co-writer of director J.J. Abrams' highly anticipated Star Trek movie, told SCI FI Wire that there's still a possibility that original star William Shatner may appear in the movie, though that's less of a possibility than before. The film is currently in production.

"There are two things," Orci said in an interview in November. "One, from our point of view, we are still hoping to find a way. Secondly, one of the difficulties that was brought up and discussed with Shatner when we all met him and pitched him ideas is that Trek fans are sticklers for their canon. [And,] unfortunately, Shatner's Capt. Kirk was killed in Star Trek VII [1994's Generations]."

Why can't Spock recall the final time he spoke with Captain Kirk? Shatner could appear in a flashback scene where Spock remembers the last conversation he and Kirk had before Kirk died

i believe it is important that shatner appear in this movie like spock says there is always a way

Captain Kirk is Star Trek!!, and the relationship with Spock is a foundation in that history. Cpt Kirk should definatly be in Star Trek 11 or it's other title 'Paramount Cash Cow'

Shatner is absolutely perfect actor for this and Captain Kirk is such a great character. Maybe Generations starts again from new point of view. yeah, you can dream on smile

I think not having Shatner appear in any manner is just... Wrong. Even a flashback like jorge said would suffice, the star trek community are really stubborn in some ways, and I think that, that is something most people would be adamant about. There is always a way. since he got older instead of a flashback make it like a temporary energized nova that somehow made him have a corpeal form or what not.

It's really simple. you have Kirk and Spock talking about old times before he leaves for the Enterprise B.

I think that since spock was alive when kirk died, that the show should open with kirk not being buried on a planet alone like in Generations, but that it should open with spock and others at his funeral saying goodbye. While at his funeral spock could then remember different events in his adventures with Kirk, going all the way back to when they first met when kirk to command of the enterprise from Chistopher Pike.

In Generations, Kirk was in the Nexus. He could go anywhere at anytime...he may have died, but did he really? Star Trek the wouldn't be the same without William Shatner.

We will all love to see william Shatner back in the role of captain Kirk. I think that he is not appearing cuz paramount has not met Shatners demands, and cuz Shatner is quite egocentric. If we publish more comments like these in many web sites we might get it.

I think William Shatner needs to be in this movie along side Lenard Nimo. There is and will only be forever, "ONE JAMES T. KIRK"! and He is William Shatner

shatner should be in the movie. he is the original captin kirk. so he has to have a scene in it. weather it be flash back or not. not having him in it would be like ruining the entire movie. the same with spock.

Ok..Shatner as a person was a jerk to the cast. Self obsorbed has-been. HOWEVER, as much as i don't like Shatner, he should be in this movie. I mean, what kind of movie is it supposed to be if you have all the other guys and not him? just doesn't make sense.

The movie, Generations, cames years after the crew of the original series says "Goodbye" in ST VI. So, Kirk isn't dead yet when the movie is going to be set, is he? I think not! Couldn't that scene be set sometime before the nexus trip?

Have shatner play Kirks dad

The obvious problem with bringing Shatner into the role is that he is now older than he was when Kirk died. How can this be explained? As much as it would be great to have him join the cast, even for a cameo, it just wouldn't fit.

its simple , this movie has an element of time travel. At the end have spoke say " I have one last thing to do" You cut to kirk getting ready to fall to his death and a hand reaches out at the last second to prevent his fall, yes its spocks hand. Cut back to present time and kirk comes out of the shadows as an older kirk and walks up to spock and say " did I ever to thank you for that " ?

Even though they did a reobot, Rodenberry and everyone else did not go back and redo the original material, rewriting it and changing things to make it better fit his artistic vision (or whatever reason Lucas currently uses). They at least respect the work (and the fans) that much. Which makes Star Trek vastly superior to Star Wars as a whole.
