Colin Farrell ("Minority Report") has inked to play Officer Jim Street in Columbia Pictures' "S.W.A.T." reports Variety
Farrell's payday, knowledgeable insiders say, approaches $8 million for the Col pic.
"S.W.A.T." will be produced by the Col-based Neal Moritz via his Original Film banner. Moritz most recently produced the Revolution Studios actioner "XXX," starring Vin Diesel and Samuel L. Jackson, the latter of whom came aboard to topline "S.W.A.T." in May.
Project, based on the 1975-1976 ABC skein of the same name, was set up as a feature at TriStar Pictures in the late 1990s with Arnold Schwarzenegger eyeing the supercop role. More recently, commercials helmer Zack Snyder was poised to make his feature debut on the pic, but that deal did not come to pass.
Task will now fall to actor-helmer Clark Johnson, who cut his teeth starring on NBC's "Homicide: Life on the Street." Johnson just helmed the pilot for HBO cop skein "The Wire," having also directed the cabler's 2001 civil rights era telepic "Boycott." Script for "S.W.A.T." comes from David Ayer, who penned both Moritz's "Fast and the Furious" as well as the Denzel Washington-toplined police drama "Training Day."
