XXX Bows To Shyamalan's Supernatural Signs

"xXx" which stars Vin Diesel, is having its release date put back, despite strong word of mouth and a sequel planned, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Revolution Studios and Sony jointly announced Friday that they have shifted the release date of "XXX," the Vin Diesel extreme-sports actioner originally set to bow against the Walt Disney Co.'s M. Night Shyamalan-directed supernatural drama "Signs," starring Mel Gibson.

"XXX" will now open Aug. 9, one week later than "Signs." "We've been talking about this for a while," said Terry Curtin, who recently joined Revolution from Universal as head of marketing.

Curtin said that after seeing the film and deciding it would appeal strongly to men and women, younger filmgoers as well as older, "we don't want to share any part of our audience."
