[Note: This is not a hypothetical "versus" match in the same vein as the threads in the versus forum. Since Sidious and Palpatine are the same characters, it's pointless to make a thread in which they duel.]
Yeah, I know that Palpatine and Darth Sidious are the same guy. But throughout the PT, one identity is different from the other, which is noticeable if you watch the PT and the OT. You notice an immediate difference between Emperor Palpatine and Darth Sidious.
I was wondering if anyone else noticed it, and if they did, which one they preferred.
Alliance has gone off the deep end and doesn't seem to want to contribute to anything anymore. I'll go lay some petunias on his grave.
Aside from the physical features, I didn't see much of a difference between the Sidious who turned Anakin and fought Yoda, to the Emperor whose "overconfidence was his weakness." The only real thing is that he was justified in his overconfidence in the PT and a little less so in ROTJ.
Though I guess you could call the PT Sidious more of a coward, trying to run from Yoda and all. The Emperor wasn't fearful of anything in the OT to such an extent.

Sidious as "Palpatine" was actually acting like a full politican because he knew that politics was the only appropriate way through which he would get a chance to a achieve his goals, if he gains sufficient powers.
He was hiding his true personality and motives behind the curtain of "Palpatine", so that he could manage to achieve his goals through stealthy means and fool others by deceiving them. He knew that he had to be very careful in this regard because if his true identity would get discovered, the Sith will be doomed.
As the "Emperor", after the creation of the Sith Empire, it was no longer necessary for him to act like a politician because he did not had to fear the Jedi Council and he was free to show his true personality. Thus his actions now seemed different. He was more upfront in making any decisions in a free state.
Oh, and when someone makes a thread that is worth contributing too, I'll contribute.
Like this: "I noticed that whenever Darth Sidious was shown in the PT, he always wore a black cloak. You could also never see his eyes. I thought this was really original because he wore the same black cloak in the OT. I felt that was really original. On the other hand, whenever Palpatine was shown, he wore colors and you could see his eyes. There is such an amazing contrast there I never put the two together until Episode III when you see Sidious actually is Palpatine.
This was so cool. Because now you have Palpatine wearing all black in the first scene, just like the old Sidious...then...you have Sidious wearing a bright read flowery burka (apparently someone gave Trisha Biggar too much creative freedom). It was like, their whole IDENTITIES were merging. It was a very scary time. I was shocked.
But then I got all confused because Sidious just went back to wearing a black cloak in the OT...Palpatine must have died or lost his taste for Technicolor robes. But they still call him Palpatine and not Darth Sidious. He must have had a galactic sized identity crisis.
Oh, and I TOTALLY liked Sidious better because his the sound team had way too much fun and they did stuff to his voice on the computer that I also like to do to my voice on the computer and it was so cool because we were like doing the same thing we must be voice brothers."
Personally, the character that I perceive as 'Darth Sidious' died the second Mace disarmed him, and I see a vast difference.
To me, Palpatine was the psychotic, cackling tyrant we all know and love with the gravely voice, whereas Darth Sidious was the mysterious, cold puppetmaster.
One could think that the PT was justification for Sidious's overconfidence in RotJ.
Like I said, though, to me, the guy who fought Yoda was Emperor Palpatine - not Darth Sidious. The maniacal tyrant was absolutely different when he was the manipulative cloaked guy.
I can tell already that you and I are gonna become e-buddies.
Despite your piss-poor reading comprehension, this is in fact, not a versus thread. There's nothing fallacious about it. Versus threads in the Versus section are hypothetical battles in which there is a debate.
I'm asking a simple ****ing question: Did anyone notice a difference between 'Sidious' and 'Palpatine'.
If you don't wanna answer, that's fine. Until then, perhaps you ought to consider acting badass around someone intimidated by it?
"acting badass"? you make a versus thread, claim that it isnt, and then whine, kneejerk, and flail when called on it. hypothertical same-character comparrisons/fights are posted frequently in vs. forums, including SW versus (a reoccuring theme being anakin vs. vader for example)
now you can either embarass yourself some more and rant like a child, or simply post this thread in its proper place. "vs" can simply ask the question of differences/advantages and doesnt have to mean "ZOMG WHOO WINZ INA FIST FIGHT???22"

This isn't your run-of-the-mill versus thread, as I have already explained in the first post.
Because it isn't a battle between Darth Sidious and Palpatine.
Wrong again, Shecter. If it were a hypothetical fight between them, you'd be right. As it stands, it isn't. It's a "versus" debate only within the context of their characterizations; nothing more.
"Hyperthetical"? Rofl.
This isn't a same character fight. Once again, that's already been explained. Alliance and yourself seem to be suffering from poor reading comprehension. Read the first post.
"Reoccuring"? Rofl.
Anakin and Vader are, by nature, two separate entities. Any basic Star Wars fan knows that.
Embarrass myself?
Says the 33-year-old who can't spell "hypothetical" and 'recurring". You want to lecture me on child mannerisms? This thread is in the proper place already; which you'd know if you read the first post.
This is a discussion of the characterization of Darth Sidious as opposed to Emperor Palpatine. Portrayed by the same actor and yes, they are ultimately the same character. But they are characterized differently due to the plot, in my opinion, and I wanted to see if anyone else saw that.
Hence it belongs here. I see that the 'vs' threw everyone except Tangible God off.
