felix never got into much trouble till LTK
granted for Tiger, but the others were nothing much more than bondgirls and they barely if any die. (a dead jinx would have been better though)
Bond girl or not, they survived, which still disputes your "everytime" statement...
as for Leiter, even before LTK, he was in on some dangerous parts... think back to GF... he was there for the army battle (not to mention doing all kinds of surveilance work throughout much of the film - and we saw how dangerous surveilance of Goldfinger was when Bond tried his hand at it earlier in the film! )...

MI6 can reveal that final screentesting is underway to cast the role of the sixth James Bond 007 - and a Scottish actor is head of the queue.
The casting company who worked on the past three Pierce Brosnan outings ("Tomorrow Never Dies" - 1997, "The World Is Not Enough" - 1999, "Die Another Day" - 2002), along with Eon Productions, are in the final stages of deciding whom to grant the next licence to kill.
6’ 6” Scottish actor Rory McCann, who last appeared alongside in "Alexander", is considered to be the top choice of producers. Contrary to most media reports, the producers are looking for a relative unknown take over from Brosnan, and 34-year-old McCann is the current front runner amongst the hopefuls.
McCann, who was paid $1million to star as Craterus (Alexander The Great's right-hand man) in Oliver Stone's epic, will be well known to Scottish television viewers for his role in the Scott's Porage Oats commercials. He also played the role of Kenny in the popular Channel 4 television series "The Book Group".
Having just completed work on medieval adventure "Beowulf & Grendel" (starring Gerard Butler) which is due for release in 2005, McCann has a clean slate for Bond 21 production.
The Hollywood Reporter announced earlier this month that "GoldenEye" (1995) director Martin Campbell has signed on to helm the movie.
The only official announcement made so far is that MGM's scheduled release date of November 18th 2005 was scrapped. The film is expected "sometime in 2006".
surveilence in general may not be so bad, but my particular reference, if you'll notice, was to the fact that Bond had shown in earlier scenes that it can in fact be dangerous, since he could easily have been killed in much the same way as Tilly...

as much as i love Bond, the longer this drags on, the more i start to think, maybe we should just quit at 20... i hate to say that, because the 20th entry sucked, and i'd hate for hte series to go out on a down note... but it's just that it's become too tiresome wading through all the rumors, and they keep pushing the date back, and it's just too frustrating, you know???
but then part of me still wants them to do it, because hey, who doesn't wanna see Clive Owen as James Bond??? and we all KNOW that's what's gonna happen... Owen's gonna be converted, and the series will be revived, and the return to the glory days of films like FRWL will send the whole world into a frenzy, and suddenly James Bond will have his honor back!!!

Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, producers of the James Bond films, and MGM announced today that Martin Campbell will direct Casino Royale, the 21st film in the 007 franchise.
This is Campbell's second time as helmer of a James Bond film. In 1995 he directed the hit Goldeneye which introduced Pierce Brosnan to the role of 007 with great success.
Wilson and Broccoli said: "We are thrilled that Martin has accepted our offer to direct 'Casino Royale'. He is an extremely talented director and we believe he will help take our films in a new and exciting direction. He is currently finishing filming 'The Legend of Zorro', the sequel to 'The Mask of Zorro', and will be joining EON Productions shortly to work on the development of the script with our writers, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade."
MGM Vice Chairman and COO Chris McGurk said: "Martin is an incredibly exciting filmmaker. 'Goldeneye' was a wonderful movie and helped reinvigorate the Bond franchise. We're thrilled to have him back to direct the newest Bond."
Born in New Zealand, Campbell moved to England in 1966 and made his directorial debut on the popular TV series' The Professionals and Minder. He moved to America in 1986 to direct Criminal Law and Defenceless. Following Goldeneye, he went on to direct The Mask Of Zorro, Vertical Limit and Beyond Borders and is currently directing The Legend of Zorro.
Casino Royale will be released in 2006 and distributed world-wide by MGM. No decision has yet been made regarding casting for the role of 'James Bond'.
I never read it but doesn't Casino Royale have virtually no action at all? I mean, I don't like pointless action (cough*Bond uses part of a rocket car to surf on a wave of water created by a satellite's energy beam on a glacier*cough) but I don't want Bond to turn into 2 hours of dialogue and sneaking around with no action in it. I think The Living Daylights had a nice mix, and GoldenEye was absolutely fantastic, definitely one of the top 5 best. From what I can remember, Casino Royale is a bunch of card games and that's it really, but like I said, I never read the book. Maybe that's only part of it...I hope so.

"The first Bond adventure, CASINO ROYAL, appeared in 1953, and it was followed 13 others. Casino Royal was partly based on Fleming's less fortunate gambling experience in Lisbon during the war."
the movie came out in 1967
"In the 1960s, Charles Feldman nabbed the rights of Ian Fleming’s James Bond novel Casino Royale. And then he completely ignored the book’s plot. Well, most of it, anyway. He corralled five directors—yes, five—and several writers and directed them to produce a movie that complemented the psychedelic movement that was transforming popular culture. And boy, did they ever. I have never dropped acid, but now, thanks to MGM Home Entertainment’s DVD release of Casino Royale, I feel like I have."
so i dont think the fell they are doing something that has been done before really..
seems like a way to end the series to me though going back to the first? i say just bring in connery and finish it now
