What are the copyright issues for using GL characters and ideas?
And what does GL do if he doesn't like something?

well, copyright issues, GL hires the writers and give them the freedom to do anything, but the major twists (like, Ackbar dieing which was vetoed have to go through him, otherwise they're free to do what they want)
and with that I already explained that if he doesn't like something he vetoes it
