Boba being old and fat isn't even close to the worst part of the show. Him being turned into Boba the un-problematic mob boss who leads through respect might have been.

I don't know why that's Boba's life goal. I never bought into him being mysteriously cool back in the day, but this was not the way to unmask him.

Oh I tried watching it a few times, but it's not particularly good. For one, I don't care for the rehash of PT movie content for over ten years. The PT was some of the least interesting SW lore in the mythos before Didneywurl took over, and while I know all the young millennials grew up with that nonsense, I didn't. I don't get excited about flashy CGI, spinning saber fights, and Anakin - the avatar of backpfeifengesicht.

The strength of some aspects of Star Wars is in its pathos, it's world building, and ultimately character arcs. PT era movies were all about convoluted plots, bad characterization, over the top special effects, and an unsatisfying build up to an iconic villain's start of darkness. Seriously, Vader seems in retrospect to be a huge emotional baby with no self control.

Despite the Clone Wars era novels being particularly good and subverting the badness of the PT - The Cestus Deception, The Approaching Storm, Cloak of Deception, Medstar Duology, Shatterpoint, etc. - none of that content got cemented into proper G-canon or given proper adaptations. instead we got Attack of the Clones Plus. Tons of shoveled in nonsense trying to cram in ten thousand days of content in the three year Clone War, and sorry I don't buy it. I could care less about Kenobi or Anakin. I could care less about Generic ARC Clone Trooper Ranger 1337, and I don't give a toss if Maul grows extra arms to supplement his new legs.

Disney's churning out bad Marvel and SW content about as fast as Paramount can do the same with Trek. I wouldn't hold your breath on that.

Cloak of Deception was really good. I should reread it now that I'm not 9 years old.

Massively disagree. Love them or hate them, the Prequels were clearly focused on building out the Universe and expanding the mythos. I mean just rewatch AOTC (my least favourite of the prequels) but just try to notice the creativity behind it, its actually unreal how much new stuff there is in there never previously seen in SW.

Hence why even though those films didnt work for you, other writers were able to come in and use that new expansion of the Star Wars mythos to create stories you did enjoy.

On the other hand I hate the sequels but its going to be very difficult for other writers to jump in and make me enjoy that era more because the sequels left nothing new there for writers to play with.

GL isn't bad at world building. Far from it. He's bad at writing plots in general. The strongest of the OT had the least directive control by the man, whereas he had complete control of the PT and they were substandard at best. You could say they have high points and I'd agree, but they were not what they should have been. Even GL admitted as much watching TPM before they sent it off for viewing.

The main issue of the PT is that it's about Anakin Skywalker. Except he doesn't appear into the first film until almost an hour in, and he's not the hero. He's incidentally useful in the most convoluted, stupid trade dispute/power grab GL could think of, and the Jedi themselves either are passive to the plot or in Qui-Gon's case, not smart about it.

Anakin spends AOTC being a stilted, whiny, massively myopic asshat who has a shallow relationship with a woman several grade levels above himself in all ways that word counts, committed genocide because the Jedi in the first film didn't secure his mother's freedom even though he's directly responsible for helping the war effort on Naboo, and gets his ass kicked by Chris Lee. Oh and Yoda does CGI kung gu on crack.

The third and final turd of the PT starts off with enough CGI to make my 3080 burst into flames, followed by a pointless rescue of a guy who is in on it and an asspull defeat of a villain that's outclassed the Jedi like very time he's shown up. This is followed up by Anakin having a scary dream about dangerous pregnancies and then going to the opera to be sweet talked about the forbidden Sith knowledge of maybe kinda sorta dunno stopping preggers death syndrome. He then betrays the Jedi in a moment of conflict because he hates Mace Windu for being a tool, and then decides to go all out and commit Jedi-cide, including murdering children on screen.

Did I miss anything?

Those movies were shit. The main hero was Obi-Wan, not losing his mind because his mentor, the council, Padme, Dooku, Sidious, Yoda, and Anakin were all stupid as hell.

A boy can hope...

Though the new Trek is good for once, it has its problems, but it feels like real Star Trek, imo. At least 3eps in.

Strange New Worlds?

I'd be surprised. The sad thing is, if you had asked me 10, 15 years ago if I wanted a show based on Captain Pike and crew, I'd have gladly said yes. Now, I'm extremely cautious. Stuff like Discovery and Picard have poisoned the well.

Yes.

Give the first 2eps a try and go from there; I think you'll be surprised. It's also not just good by comparison because Discovery is a turd and Picard is so very meh, it's decent on its own merits.

Even the theme song feels like proper Trek.

It's crazy to think that EIGHTEEN years ago the consensus on this board was to shut down the Star wars vs forum, due to the perception that Star Wars was dead and there was nothing left to debate about on the subject.

Haters gonna hate.

Just wait until you get to be my age. Then the world will be a dark, dark place where there's no hope for the future. Humans cannot be trusted, the environment suffers, and every IP you've ever loved is being ruined by some product of insular Hollywood nepotism. Only then will you let go of your hate and settle for the true path - - bitterness.

I'm 34.

Came here in '05 when I was 16.

It feels strange that it was almost 20 years ago when I first arrived here. It feels strange to have this weird little pulse at the back of my mind that sounds off once in a blue moon, telling me to check this place.

I met my wife here, who I have been with for 16 years next month.

Bit of a fucking trip, really.

On the plus side, porn comes with less viruses than it did back in the early 2000s, physical media is a thing of the past, and McDonald's sometimes serves breakfast all day.

Little miracles to hold back the bitter wave.

According to Her Most Impressive Majesty, Kathleen Kennedy, that's Rey Skywalker. You damn hater of all that is holy and Disney.
