that's just swamp and john's opinion and not proof.
The Word itself also confirmed that ST could have replaced the God. That in itself is all the proof I need.

The Phantom Stranger also confirms it.
And the reason the Word is unleashed is to prevent Swamp Thing from gaining his full power; had there been no threat, there wouldn't really have been a reason to awaken the Word, who hadn't been given a mission in eons, would there?
And thanks for all the props, guys!

Thanks!
And the Word is simply the physical manifestation of the first thing the Voice (God) uttered. He's considered Spectre's equal.

In the first issue of Kevin Smith's Batman: The Widening Gyre, Bruce refers to Swamp Thing as "A god. Very much an unbeatable God." (Italics his).

But you can apparently beat him by saying stuff backwards.
Lame.
Zatanna would pwn him.

I just noticed that myself.

The Word was not beaten just by saying random 'stuff' backwards.
Tefe literally cancelled him out by mimicking the exact opposite sound/vibrational frequency that was used by THE God to originally create the Word. She also had to assume a form capable of approximating/withstanding God's voice:

ie. your comment was VERY far from the truth.

I know, I was exaggerating, I just thought it was a pretty lame way for a badass character to go

Getting beaten by an approximation of the opposite of God's voice is the ONLY way the Word could have been beaten. It's not lame, it's fitting.

But still, it's just sound. I mean, if you knew the word you could built a boombox to play it. And WTF was with that word anyway - Umau? WTF is that supposed to mean?

You're nitpicking entirely too much. The circumstances behind the Word's defeat have already been thoroughly explained. That said, there's really no need to continue any sort of debate regarding that instance [especially in this thread.]

Well I just say that, in my opinion, it was a lame way for him to go out

It was mentioned a couple of times that Tefe was more or less the only being capable of recreating God's voice in order to do that.

^ Thanks, Mike.
That was the battle in which ST simultaneously owned Captain Atom and Red Tornado, by essentially dragging their consciousness(es) to a limbo zone [posted on the 3rd page.]

This is a very very great respect thread. Thank you Galan. Swamp Thing has always been a beautiful character. And bad-ass to boot.
