Loathsome Cthulhu rose then from the deeps and raged with exceeding great fury against the Earth Guardians. And They bound his venomous claws with potent spells and sealed him up within the City of R'lyeh wherein beneath the waves he shall sleep death's dream until the end of the Aeon. Beyond the Gate dwell now the Old Ones; not in the spaces known unto men but in the angles betwixt them. Outside Earth's plane They linger and ever awaite the time of Their return; for the Earth has known Them and shall know Them in time yet to come.
We live in a world that shun the very thought of magic and of ancient beings. We live in a world where logic and science is all that matter, where heretics are judged insane. Theorists has at times spoken though in belief that insanity perhaps is not as insane as it might imply, only restricted. In recent days, weeks, more and more cases of insanity has been reported and while their insanity differ from individual to individual, there is one word linking them all together. Cthulhu!
Now I ask you, dare you seek the truth? Maybe the world as we know it is just that: What we know. Maybe though, maybe there is more to this recent plaguing insanity than just coincidence. Do you believe in magic? Do you believe there is more to this world than what man has witnessed with their mortal eyes? Do you believe in ghosts?
If so, there is a city in Massachusetts named Arkham where the cases of insanity are higher than anywhere else in the world. If you do not already live there, venture now and seek out the answers that science and logic can not give you.
If digging into the myth of this Cthulhu is something you want nothing more than to avoid, pray to whatever God out there that you do not already live in this insanity plagued city.
What is to be expected?
Cthulhu Chronicles: Tidings of madness and woe is a roleplay touching several genres, including horror, adventure, criminality and modern fantasy. You will be a normal human with any kind of work and you will either be forced into the world of Cthulhu or joined it willingly in search for answers. What the future has in store for you remains a mystery.
Who am I?
You are whoever. Maybe a professor from Germany, a soldier from Russia, a teacher from New York, a private investigator from down under or a student at Arkham's glorious Miskatonic University. You could be in the city Arkham to visit a friend, you could be living there, working there or you could be going there to investigate the insanity and death that has plagued the city. Why you are there is up to your imagination to decide.
Note that you are a normal human being. You do not have superpowers, you do not know magic and you are not a collector of magical tomes. You could be cunning in the Cthulhu mythos, but for all your character knows it is just a myth. A myth that is slowly becoming frighteningly more real as things move on. This roleplay will be acting inside yet outside the fictional world created by H.P Lovecraft, meaning that while it is the world of Cthulhu, in this world H.P Lovecraft has existed and numerous books he has written exist in the roleplay.
What your character does for a living, what it is doing there and what it is like is all up to you.
How do I start?
How you start should depend on why you are there. You could be arriving by train, bus or you could finally reach your destination by car. You can have a house there, or live at a friends place and have your character believe it will be a day like any other. You could be investigating one of the many murders or disappearances, should that interest your character or if that is what your character does for a living. You could have your interest in the recent spread of insanity peaked and you want to visit the Asylum. Your friend could be missing or hospitalized for reasons that has remained a mystery so far. You could be praying in the church or you could be in the middle of class.
While you are of course allowed to think of your own start, note that while it is often prefered you must not start near everyone else. I will be little by little pulling all characters towards one another by one mean or the other in order to form our adventerous group.
Where exactly is it we start?
Arkham is a fictional city in Massachusetts. The precise location of Arkham is unknown, although it is probably near both Innsmouth and Dunwich. However, it may be surmised from Lovecraft's stories that it is some distance to the north of Boston, probably in Essex County, Massachusetts.
Arkham is the home of Miskatonic University, an institue which finance bold expeditions and projects that research the occult. It is also, as the name imply, a school that has a general teaching position, teaching all the expected classes and some more prominent courses, among other medicine. Other notable institutions in Arkham are the Arkham Historical Society and the Arkham Sanitarium. The Arkham Sanitarium is also known as the Asylum, or the Arkham Asylum.
Arkham is an old city, old buildings although well preserved. Arkham's main newspaper is the Arkham Advertiser, which has a circulation that reaches as far as Dunwich. Arkham’s most notable characteristics are its gambrel roofs and the dark legends surrounding the city for centuries. Occurrences such as the disappearance of children, men and women (presumably murdered in ritual sacrifices) and other bad doings are accepted as a part of life for the poorer citizens of the city.
Despite all, Arkham is calm and somewhat numb, a thypical rural city where people mind their own and policemen cruise the streets in boredom (Save the times when murder or disappearances are reported).

Personality: James is often quiet but strong willed. He is the kind of person that takes some time to warm up to people. Until he does he’s often very quiet, and only speaks when he needs to. When he has, he talks quite allot. He thinks before acting out, or saying anything. And chooses to follow his head, not his gut.
Greatest fear: James’s greatest fear is to let down those who he cherishes.
Biography: Born in England, James grew up with two sisters, his mother and his father. However, when growing up his parents divorced. His father took one of his sisters to the United States, leaving him with his mother and his remaining sister. He missed her, but soon they began to write to each other allot. She told him in the letters she’d moved to Boston. It was nice there, and she was soon making new friends at school. The two would continue to write to each other for years.
James spent allot of his time just reading through books his mother would buy him to keep him quite as a child and young teen. It didn’t really matter what they were to James. He would read anything. He even read a Animal encyclopaedia cover to cover. All in all he lead a very normal life. He had a group of friends he’d hang around with for years. He got his first kiss at the age of 14, later she would later become his first girlfriend and lover. When he moved to study at college he followed Literature. He took it on in University, deciding to aim to try to become a writer himself one day.
Reason for being in Arkham: A few months ago his sister wrote to him telling him their father had gone missing. She’d moved out by now, so when he moved north to a place called Arkham she didn’t go with him. But after writing to him telling him she’d go to look for him, he’d heard nothing. For months. It was both shocking and frightening to him. After trying to make contact to the community to find out where his father and sister had gone he finally decided to go there himself.
Thoughts on magic: James believes magicians tricks to merely be slides of the hand, and acts of misdirection. He enjoys novels and likes the idea of a classic fantasy magic, but he believes in it on no level whatsoever.
Thoughts on religion: James is an Atheist. He thinks there is something after death, but he doesn’t bother to consider what it could be. He believes everyone will one day find out what’s on the other side, why worry about wondering.
Appearance: James has deep blue eyes, and messy, often spiky brown hair. He favours jeans, and jackets. Often wearing t-shirts underneath. He stands 5ft 9 and has a medium build and body type.

Gender: Male Location: 1/9.7'rd Horseman of the Apocalypse
Name: Alan, or Al, Crichton. (Pronounced Cry-ton)
Occupation: Doorman, or "bouncer".
Personality: On the exterior, Al seems gruff and reserved. Quiet. Butin truth he's a deep thinker, and has a great appreciation for classic literature, history, and philosophy. He's also a terrible gambler, and something of a heavy drinker. He also tends to be a loner, as he's stubborn, and fiercely independant. He's also very prideful, and clings to his dignity with more vigour than he clings to even life. This can make him brave, or stupid, as if he has something to prove. In truth, he's trying to convince himself most of all.
Greatest fear: Despite his pride, Al has a slight fear and unease in the dark, as well as mild social anxiety. Rejection and embarrassment are a huge deal to him, but his greatest fear is to be outside his own control, and at the will of another. Helplessness.
Biography: Al was born in Cork Ireland, where he developed his love of song and literature, as well as hardened into the man that he is today. His early life was tough, but rewarding. He learned quickly how to take care of himself, and the value of hard work. In his twenties he moved to America, having lost most of his family, or cut ties.
Currently, he works at the door of an industrial club in Boston, collects old books, and spends his spare time indulging in escapism or cards.
Reason for being in Arkham: The library at Miskatonic University.
Thoughts on magic: He doesn't believe in magic, but finds it's concept intrigueing.
Thoughts on religion: Curious, he's convinced the universe as a whole is too impossibly well designed to have been accidental, or spawned by random chance, but has a hard time accepting the idea of dieties.
Appearance: Tall, and lean. He cuts an imposing figure at 6'2" and 200 lbs. (91 KG) He has short dark hair, and green eyes, as well as a perpetual case of five o' clock shadow, which he sometimes gives up on controlling, resulting in a short beard. He wears plain clothes, except for his leather jacket and boots. His Irish accent has faded slightly from years spent in America, but is still quite obvious, and his voice is even toned, not high or low. He bears a small scar on the right side of his mouth, which cuts across both lips verticly.
Personality: Simon is a out-loud thinker. He is not afraid of anyone or anything, which can make him brave or foolish. He tends to try and make others feel better at what they do, as well as attempt to raise their spirits. He tends to act out like a leader whether people follow him or not.
Greatest fear: The Inevitable. Simon's fear is when there is nothing he can do or say, in certain situations.
Biography: Simon Kamina was born and raised in New York.
He was raised in a orphanage and was never taken in by any such family, he was always to loud and hurts anyone who try's to pick him up. He always yelled that one day his real family would pick him up, but of coarse that never came to be.
During his school days, he never did good when it came to grades and studys. But Simon always raised the spirits of others students that they can pass Education, and they all truly did, All except for Simon. He was never able to pass the important tests, and never payed to much attention during lectures. But that never bothered him at all.
Even though Simon failed in High School, he moved on with what he can do. He works for fast food restaurants, janitors for small companys, or as a stockboy for any company. Always saving up a little before he moves in for the next city, always looking for that one big break where he will have a big paying job, or any kind of opportunity to strike the dream of a life time. He will never give up, and will always have that cocky smile on his face yill he find what he needs.
Reason for being in Arkham: The latest city Simon has moved to. Wasting no time he applied for Mcdonalds, with all the experience he has, and how loud his personality tends to be, it was no mystery that he was hired without much of a thought by it's manager.
Thoughts on magic: Magic is what the characters do in most video games, cartoon tv shows, fantasy movies, and in those damn harry potter books. It's not real, because it's not real. It is something Simon doesn't think about.
Thoughts on religion: Religion seemed like something that would slow Kamina down. Because of that, he doesn't bother with such a thing.
Appearance: 6'4, medium built body. Natural hair color is black, but has it dyed to dark blue and spiked out to stand out in a crowd. Dark brown eyes, but wears red shades to stand out once more. Bright clean white smile, shines against the sun even it's not there. Cleaned Face, no facial hair.
Simon usually wears a red jacket to match his glasses, and a dark blue t-shirt underneath, Dark blue jeans.
Personality: A very quiet kinda person until you get to know him. He is very friendly, although happens to make enemies just out of the way he presents himself. He is not much of a fighter but dont think he could be taken advantage of he wont allow it.
Greatest fear: Being traped in a very small hole with barely any room to move or breath. Often having dreams of this make him panic.
Biography: Isa came to the town when he was 17 with his parents. Once his carrier was established, he start working at a local spa. Before they moved to the town he was a very troubled young man. His brother often beat him down to the point of him almost dying until one day Isa killed him. He burned the body and got ride of evidence. He knew how to do this because his dad was a local cop. At the age of 16 when they wanted to move Isa was thrilled to leave his past behind. He pushes on past his horrific deed he executed. No one suspected Isa of murder. He lives on his own now and often visits his parents. Latley hes having trouble trusting the people of the town he feels left out of a secret. He keeps having dreams of dying alone
Reason for being in Arkham: a new start was needed.
Thoughts on magic: He likes to beilive there is a such thing as real magic
Thoughts on religion: He beilives in a upper hand but he slowly looses his beilives as he gets older.
Please lemme know if this ok if not i can change it

Name: Zoe Sullivan Age: 27 Gender: Female Occupation: Sick-listed Experimental psychologist Personality: Zoe Sullivan is a brilliant woman with a very open mind and has a passion for psychology. She is kind, helpful and social but often careful with what she says. Despite that, she is more of a talker than a listener, at least since the point when she got sick-listed. She was sick-listed two years ago, recommended time away from work because of the severity of her condition: Zoe suffer from redundant paranoia and has become afraid of a great deal of things. Greatest fear: She has many fears, but the greatest ones are her fear of sharp objects as well as her fear of birds Biography: Zoe was a brilliant student back in New York and always did well on tests and in class. During her psychology education, Zoe got for a time mixed up in bad crowds and was for periods of time on both drugs and a frequent drinker. Once she finished school though, this bad habit of hers stopped as she got a job.
For a few years, Zoe worked as an experimental psychologist, which is a methodological approach rather than a subject. She was employed to conduct psychological research and to teach rather than to practise and treat. As the years moved on and she studied further and further the depth of psychology, she slowly grew paranoid and became less and less trusting. It soon reached the point when her fellow workers realized that her work stressed her and that she soon could become a psychological danger to herself. So she was sick-listed.
Sitting at home for a few weeks, staring into the wall and reading book after book, she ended up going out of town and went to visit her father, who worked as a catholic priest in the Arkham church. She stayed with him for years, enjoying the fresh air in the rural city and the low pace that the city has. Something over a week ago though, her father went missing. Despite having attained a significant level of serenity, his disappearance struck her like lightning and her paranoia came back as a slap across the face. Reason for being in Arkham: Getting her thoughts straight and visiting her now missing father Thoughts on magic: She fear anything is possible and has chosen not to neglect the idea of the existence of paranormal activities Thoughts on religion: In her mental solitude, Zoe has read religious books cover to cover and has constructed a sanctuary of faith in her mind. Believing there is a greater purpose of all things, Zoe does not neglect any religion and is herself a believer. She believe in God, but she does not know which one. She find herself righteous and she has the belief that God does too, whatever God it is Appearance: Zoe does not care for fashion or looking good. She wears casual clothing and often a headband to keep the hair from her eyes. As the picture shows, she fancy red and orange striped clothing, but does not specificly seek any particular clothing when she open her drawers. She pick what is on the top of the pile.

Hey—is it too late for me to join? This looks interesting ^^”
Name: Anna “Sim” Molly
Personality: Anna enjoys smiling and appearing happy because it is a safe identity to maintain in public. She is nice (and a borderline pushover) and does what she can to keep to herself. In reality, Anna is incredibly sarcastic and largely politically incorrect, her at times foul mouth astonishing to those who thought they knew her. The prospect of a challenge excites her and her pride makes her determined not to quit once she starts.
Greatest fear: Getting into a physical fight…it’s not the idea of defending herself that scares her, but rather being forced to fight offensively towards another human being. She panic attacks.
Biography: Anna was born and raised in Southern California. Her incredibly cynical mother was the daughter of the co-founder of a popular brand of vodka geared towards cheap college students. Money was never a real issue which helped with the years of therapy her mother would endure after being the unfortunate victim of rape. In spite of this, she never scorned the existence of Anna but instead promised herself the same fate would never befall her child.
At a young age, Anna was pushed into learning a series of martial arts and eventually settled on Muay Thai (Thai Kickboxing) as her art of choice. It wasn’t until her teens when she began entering amateur MMA (mixed martial arts) tournaments to satisfy her need for healthy competition and…well, fun. Even though it wasn’t the safest afterschool activity, it was by far the most satisfying experience.
In her senior year of high school, in between balancing school work and training in MMA, her hold on her mental health began to slip. It finally cracked in her last caged fight against her best female “frenemy”. After the seemingly fateful fight, Anna took a long break from the world that was her reality and counted the days until she’d be free from her created identity…i.e. going to Miskatonic University.
Reason for being in Arkham: Besides being a nice escape from her past, Miskatonic University offered her the most Financial Aid without requiring her to continue doing one of the few things she was/is decent at doing.
Thoughts on magic: “How f***ing awesome would THAT s*** be?”
Thoughts on religion: “The most beautiful existential Irony I know…besides that one song Irony…”
Appearance: With a cinnamon complexion, toned abs, arms, and legs, and a consistently feral glint in her strange green eyes, Anna could be mistaken for an Amazon…not that you could tell with her conservative dresses and almost dorky circular lensed glasses. She is 5’9’’ and wears her shoulder length wavy hair either tied up or in braids as a force of habit.
