Haven't seen that many, but just about every French movie I saw really impressed me. They seem to be more realistic and intense that the average. And those French sure know how to make action movies, without cramming them full of CGI effects.

Jean-Pierre Melville definitely belongs in this conversation. Le Samourai, Le Cercle Rouge, Army of Shadows, etc. How can you guys have missed him?
