I love everything I've seen by Truffaut. Jean Renoir is great from what I've seen. Love both The River and The Grand Illusion.
I'm the only person I can think of who didn't enjoy Amélie at all.

A Short Film About Killing, The Double Life of Veronique and obviously the Colours trilogy. Haven't seen a lot of his directed work, but want to see more. Hell is also good, but think he did the writing for this one.

Jean-Pierre J. (made Amelie) made it, and i was wondering if it was worth watching.

It's probably one of the more mainstream foreign films. It's pretty decent, nonetheless.

Haven't seen that many, but just about every French movie I saw really impressed me. They seem to be more realistic and intense that the average. And those French sure know how to make action movies, without cramming them full of CGI effects.
Stuff like Crimson Rivers and District 13 puts hollywood to shame in that genre.

Argh I adore Crimson Rivers, excellent film. Was not so keen on District 13, still had some good scenes though.

I saw this topic, read it through, and was very shocked. NO ONE MENTIONED MELVILLE?! Jean-Pierre Melville definitely belongs in this conversation. Le Samourai, Le Cercle Rouge, Army of Shadows, etc. How can you guys have missed him?
