Re: Why women want handsome men

Now a scientific studied has shown, why women go for the handsome men. Their sperm is simply better.According to a recent news story in the New Scientist, 'handsome men have the best sperm'. And how do we know this? Because researchers recruited 66 women in Valencia, Spain, who looked at the faces of 66 male students and happened to identify as the most handsome those men who also have the best sperm.

🤨 I see all and hear all Omega! 😛
How does that study compensate for the idea of beauty?
A man or woman in one culture or country who is considered very attractive to the opposite sex may not be regarded in the same way in a different culture.
Does this mean that your sperm count can change if you go to an area in the world where you are considered more attractive?
Cipher, have you ever taken a social anthropology course or a similar university level course (or equivalent) that studies the dynamics, traits and belief structures of other cultures? There are cultures around the world that find asymetry attractive, obesity desirable, and the distortion of the body through years of altercation the epitome of beauty.
The idea of a universal or global concept of beauty is idea put forth by a few western behaviouralists and is heavely supported by cosmetic and like minded companies.

Probably not. I find this amazing how all men jumped to some kind of defence..like we shouldnt perfer handsome men.We have a reason to be shallow - it makes me happy.
As if we don't look for trophies as well. Shallow as it may seem, the looks just have to be there, or it's likely not going to work.
I'm not getting defensive, I'm just saying that I find it hard to accept the results of a study when the judgement of male or female beauty is not an easily calcuable (real word?) variable.
I find Christina Ricci very attractive, most of my friends don't. I have seen some women go nuts over Kid Rock, others go insane over Johnny Depp, still others for the lead singer of the Pogues. The definition of beauty in not universal. There can be cultural accepted norms, but you will still have indivivdual preferences. But to say that there are universal ideas of beauty I think is a little over the top.
I find it hard that anything is universally accepted.
