Every year, I'll get a birthday email from KMC at which point I'll log on and meander around for a bit.

Usually it's lurking because I don't recognize anyone anymore (active 2004-2008ish), but I figured I'd post here since I actually recognize the two ladies above. How've you two been?

wave I'm doing okay. How have you been?

Doing decent, living with impossibly uptight parents again while preparing to go back to school this fall. (AKA the 'get your shit together life phase'😉

Last I recall you were up to your armpits studying for exams, hopefully school went by OK for you.

I recognize you. You are that Mist fellow, aren't you?

Michael? No, but we were friends. I haven't seen or spoke to him since I became inactive though.

I'm just joking, of course I remember you... 😛

I can understand that. I scrambling to get mine in order as well.

I graduated with my bachelor degrees. Then got accepted to graduate school. Then got sick and had to drop out. Twice. Now I'm just dicking around. Thinking of what to do.

Oh OK, I do see you pop up every now and then on Facebook but you and Sarah have maintained radio silence mostly. How've you guys been?

A lot of people burn out in grad school, takes a special crazy to get through it no matter what program it is. What'd you major in?

I personally failed out of Engineering multiple times so this is me trying out IT at a different school.

We've been pretty good. We moved last year to a nicer apartment. And we've been together 7 year now (since the 10th of January). Still living in Germany. I work in my family's business as a programmer. And Sarah is finishing her Bachelor's in Design this year. And yeah, facebook is a good way to keep in touch with us, both Sarah and I check regularly anyways. Although we don't update that much. How about you?

A programmer eh, that's what I'm being groomed to be. Frontend/backend? What languages/libraries?

I use Facebook similar to you actually, use it more as a social news feed rather than updating statuses. I like it this way because my life ain't exciting enough to tell everyone else about - yet, anyway - but for some it's a privacy deal and I can respect that. It's just nice to know what the people I knew from a decade ago are up to.

I don't have much free time anymore, most of it is spent following the local NHL team's progress like a true Canadian and playing WoW/Starcraft with friends. Used to go to an MMA gym last year but broke arm doing jiujitsu, which healed just in time for classes to start. Haven't been back since.

I am pretty free to do what I want, as it's our company. So I do everything badly, and then the specialists can fix it. I do mainly python with django for web development and Objective C/Cocoa Touch for iOS. What about you?

Yeah, I like to keep up with what people say, but feel that my updates would be too mundane, or not interesting for 90% of the people on my friends list, so I hardly ever update my status.

Ah damn, bad luck about the arm, you want to go back though? Are you going for a Bachelor in CS then? And you say you are back with your parents now? Did you drop out?

I've worked only a little bit with Python; I'm mostly trying to learn the front-end development. Javascript, jQuery, along with the necessary knowledge of HTML/CSS to use those two languages. Dad's been in the industry for most of his career and he says the frontend stuff has been in high demand since the late 2000s. I'm doing more of a general IT Bachelor's; comp science is a part of it, but not the focus. Staying with my parents for the duration of school.

A few years ago, fresh out of high school I failed out of 1st-year Engineering in University(didn't treat it as seriously as I should have and got one F in each semester which dropped the hell outta GPA), dropped out of that. This is pretty much my second and last chance at post secondary.

As for MMA, yeah it was tough luck. Was in a pretty intense rolling session with one of the local pros and he slapped on an armlock so quickly I didn't get a chance to even think about tapping. Just snapped clean.

They were all stunned at my lack of a reaction because all I did was heave a few sighs and look glum while they jury-rigged a sling for me for the ride to the hospital. I do want to go back, but figured I'd better get my affairs & life in order first in case something like that happens again.

It's good hearing from you two though, and really everyone that used to frequent this place. It's like watching a whole bunch of mixed ages grow up different ways. Some finish school and start their own life, the older members get married and even have kids. Tired Hiker has probably the coolest daughter ever. Ken Kenobi has a boy. Syren already was a mom by the time I left KMC. I stay in touch through Facebook most with BackFire, Alpha Centauri and Lord Sorgo.

DarkC and I talk about hockey on Facebook. Always an enjoyable conversation.

You still keep up with Ken and Sorgo?

Yeah, front-end is really important. I've been doing some JQuery, HTML, CSS for my projects, but I'm not that great at it. Would you want to work as a front end guy then? Webdesigner maybe?

It is great to hear from people though. I've been here almost 10 years now, that's such a long time. People changing, growing up, like you said having kids. And yeah, I too mostly keep up with them on facebook. KMCers are the main part of my feed really.

I do.

Actually, I use 'hola' quite frequently as a greeting. I just don't do it that often here.

Hola, mi amigo. ¿Cómo estás?

Uh... bien?

I never did learn me some proper Spanish.

Well now you know a little bit more.

Some people will complain even if you hang them with a new rope.

I talk to them both.

Mine as well. Most of my real life friends don't use facebook, mostly just KMCers and some random family members on the other side of the country.
