Well with any sports injury you usually have a seasons recovery. But with his shoulder injury and torn ACL, he could be gone all year recovering if he doesn't stop what he is doing.

I personally walked on the beaches and jungles of the Philippines and I just as well could have had the same experience watching on a nature documentary.

The closest I've gotten is Görlitz Germany, the idea of seeing Russia has some merit but in the current political climate I think that would be unwise.

Although that might not count, it was for work and not a vacation type deal.

Lotsa places in the world where one has to go for work that might not be the safest.
