Yeah his family used him. It's child abuse is what it is.

In his mind he was just playing with them. Sleepovers man! Besides it's the parents who allowed their children to go sleep with a grownup

Which is a tragedy, but I imagine his life was a livng nightmare. The man never got to live like we know it.

There's a great many celebrities that faked their deaths so they could go on with their lives. Fame takes an enormous toll and a peaceful retirement is a powerful motivator.
