I think he died in one comic and rogue had to go into the after life or sumthin and get him back im not sure what comic that is and i prolly just didnt understand it right

you're right. he was captured and turned into a living conduit--his energy-based powers made him be the perfect battery. he asked the x-men to kill him since they were unable to breach the forcefield around him.

rogue went to his rescue but they were both attacked. both survived, but gambit needed surgery. and rogue had to enter the astral plane to make him want to live.
