"Maybe a night strike? We set fire to their tents, and when they awake we gather all the guards on the walls so that it looks like our force is much larger than it is. The strike would have to be in the night straight after they discover the army at their backs, however."

That's an offensive strategy; that has been rejected. The battle will be fought when they come to you.

Okay, sos. I'll think it over. What about the soldiers on the wall?

I would think most of you will be on the walls.

(so we need to find ways to defend this place, didn't baranar already think of most logical medieval ways to defend his keep?)

You could feasibly fire an arrow into their lines right now but without much accuracy. When they attack they most certainly will be!

And do you mean sorties before or during the fight?

(I was thinking before - Is this an offensive strategy - That can make them attack sooner too, but is is the only alternatif that I can see.
They shall try a decisive attack with all forces without opportunity for us to do any sortie. During, it would be suicide..I think)

Hmm, How about setting up static Defences, Pits with sharpened stickes in them, Traps ect.

depends on how much time we have but pits with sticks will take time

...And it would mean going outside the walls, unless you mean inside the walls, which I don't think would be of much use

Is there anything we can throw down on them if they try to scale the walls--hot oil/water, rubble, etc...?

Yes, he has murder holes and crenellations down which stuff can be poured/fired.

There is a keep inside the walls, but if you have to flee to that, you are screwedn. They cannot breech but you MUST prevent them from forming a secure route inside the walls, or you are all dead.
