now if only you used this for every time someone says they dont like a band, instead of turning it into a pointless debate.

The flaw in your comment comes from the fact that it's a trait typical of Tool fans, so it was only really relevent to this thread.

The second error comes when you realise that I don't care if people like bands or not. When I debate it's over a point, not me having a problem with someone disliking a band I like.

you are right about the typical tool fan thing. i see that more with Tool fans than any other band.

and thanks for clarifying what starts a debate with you.

"I don't like Tool.", "Why?!".

He/She doesn't like Tool, it's not the apocalyspe.

Just going to check if my multi-vitamins have iron in them.

Yep.

All of the above.

Tool kicks ASS

Here's how I have a Tool session when I'm in the mood, I'd recomend this to anyone who likes them or wants to give them a try.
Turn off all the lights.
Download this Visualation plugin for Winamp, http://www.nullsoft.com/free/milkdrop/
Pick any album.
Press play.
Activate the Visualtion.
Turn up the music.
Stare at the screen.

*Note, a joint or 2 will enhance this. 😛

That said, Tool rock. 😄

i never did get the point of visualizations. your spose to listen to music not watch a bunch of colors moving to the sound of it.

Music is art, art is a way for a person to share their emotions, emotions are triggered by your sences wich are translated by the brain into emotions. (Worth saying, I'm not emo, I don't get emo)
The more sences that the particular piece of art triggers, the greater the emotinol experience.
Therfor by looking at the visualtions, you're trigger another additinol sence, your eyesight. The music is presented to you in 3 ways, you hear it, you see it and if you turn up the music and have a decent sterio, you feel it too. Media has yet to make a way for us to taste and smell the things they display to us.
It also lets you absorb into the music and concentrait fully on it. There are no outside objects for your brain to register and destract you from the music.

I dunno, that's just how I feel.
I mean they're a waist of screen space most of the time but if you're in the mood, and with the right kind of music, it can be a nice way to just sit down and listen to music.

Probably wasn't worth saying that...

I don't agree with that point, otherwise film would beat books. Unless you smell and taste the book.

A good writer will describe the scene to the point where you can imagine the taste, smell, look, feel and sound of the scene. Books don't process images into your head, they let you create them for yourself. Visualations in the same manner, don't give you something clear, something certian to look at, they leave the interpatation of what you see and hear, to your imagination.

TV is not art, it does not leave room for your imagination.

That's imagination. You can do that with music without looking at some swirly colours.

You've certainly read some books. What about illustrated ones? Or ones where the pictures are swirly colours. Better?

What about a show that just shows a picture of the Mona Lisa for 30 minutes? Or swirly colours with a music background?

Surroundings do a good job of distracting you from things...like music. If you're listening to music while staring at KMC forums, typing, you're being distracted. If you're listening to music while driving, you're being distracted. If you're Sitting back on your char, staring at the things on your desk while listening to music, you're being distracted. This gives you a tool to help you concentrait on nothing around you.

I mean fine, you could close your eyes, lie on your bed turn up the music till you hear nothing els and not be distracted at all. I do that all the time, I like doing that.
You could also just sit in front of your computer and have some eye pleasing movment that does not mean anything but is generated by the rythem of the music, keep your mind off anything els. This isn't something I do every day or every week for that matter. I do it once in a while just when I'm in the mood.

I get it, it's not your cup of tea, just trying to show you the logic behind those who do happen to like that cup of tea. 😉

Does the book have a beat that these swirly pictures are programed to follow?
Does it mesmerise you into the book and make you focus deeply into it?

You talking about mtv and the history channel? 🙄

I get the fact that you're trying to be a smart ass and make me look like an idiot, to me you're just narrow minded. =)

Can't argue with heavy music fans though, they're stubborn about their likes.

Well, no. You just made silly points. The First paragraph quoted makes sense- although it's still just a description of your personal tastes.

*sigh*
Well I'm glad I don't brows these forums often.

Btw nice swirly colerfull images from tools last album you have there in your siggy, they remind me of winamp visualation. 😉

My thing is I like to put my headphones on and just go for a walk somewhere. In fact a lot of the time I'll start off in my room listening to music and without even thinking about it end up putting my shoes on and walking out the door. I don't know if it's that the movement/visuals/interaction with the outside world adds to the listening experience, or if I just have ADHD. Perhaps it's a little bit of both..

The phenomenal, innovative and spiritual art of Alex Grey reminds you of Winamp visualisations?

Clearly you are not the best person to have an argument about art perception with.

oh sorry I wasn't aware that I had to put a [Smartass mode = on] [/smartass mode] to clarify my every word.

Never thought it would be so hard to explain that there can be more than one correct way to do something or that people have individual tastes and not liking someone elses taste doesn't mean their taste is flawed.
I don't know why I bother trying.

How does Alex Grey create those pictures?
