naturally, I'm going to give it 1 watch in english to see for myself how bad they could do..

To me, the VA sounds pretty promising, for the most part at least. I'll be watching both.

I very, very rarely watch the English version of a movie that's dubbed into it; 99% of the time I'll watch the original language version with subtitles. I'll probably watch once in English and then only watch it in Japanese with the subtitles.

The Japanese version would be awesome. I hope its included in the American release this month.

Im curious as to why they havnt released a new trailer yet. Like with the english voices all exposed. It would help give us an idea of what we will be getting you know, as far as VA quality.

Not that, but they already have an "English" trailer... the E3 2004 trailer. With the sole narrator. So they figure that'll pass as our version, probably.

Kadaj's voice isn't quite what I expected, but it's definitely serviceable.

Cloud sounds great, though.

The lip-syncing didn't seem too bad there, in my opinion.

hmmm...i dont know after seeing this i personally prefer the japanese version. Ill rent the movie first before i buy it, thats for sure.

I think the black sheep made sense. Granted I'm going to prefer the Japanese voices since that's what I've heard in the trailers for the past few years, but they seem good to me. The dialogue isn't really enough to make a sound judgement on it yet, but it seems like it's gone in the right direction. Lip synching is eh, though.

The thing about dialogue is that a straight translation just doesn't work. Sometimes it's a local thing, like the "zuruzuru zuruzuru" onomatopoeia. Other times, it's simply that something takes much longer to say in English than in Japanese, and vice-versa.

Good dialogue translation consists of finding a way to express the same ideas in local expressions used in English.

Personally, I like the "black sheep" thing. It has a nice essence in it, especially in the way Kadaj says it. Traitor would have been okay, but it doesn't exactly match up to Cloud as black sheep does.

Exactly, General. Direct translation never works out, as the languages are completely different. The same message is conveyed with different wording. And I almost prefer 'black sheep' to 'traitor'... it gives it a more vivid sense of Cloud's being a loner, if that makes sense.

I was a bit eh on the whole format of the clip (PSP MPEG-4) and aspect ratio (which would've been corrected on PSP) so I'm converting it to another format for easier viewing.
