Not quite yet. I'm through 9 of the 12. I promised Rex I'd be done by Tuesday. But I think I'll just PM Rex since I'd rather not broadcast everyone's score to the public.

I'm mostly done reading everything, I just need to go back through a few things and score them out.

Only 1 to go, and I don't have a clear #1. The top 5 for me is pretty clear-cut since most seem to be hit-or-miss situations (I'll only have one rough decision to make) but no one has seperated themselves a ton.

I'm only PM'ing Rex my top 5. Are any of the other judges doing anything different?

I PM'd my results (top 5) to Rex.

Most of my judging revolved around effective use of the medium. The short story format allowed for effective, if limited, character development and plot.

That said, most of the low scores I gave happened because of two reasons.
1. A few were just frustrating to read due to grammatical errors, changes in the point of view, and needless run-ons. Cliche or illogical endings generally don't do it for me either.
2. The others that didn't make it generally tried to do either too much or too little with the short story format. Some had little or no development, while others covered too much material, and a couple stretched a few paragraphs worth of material into a whole story.

Good things:
A few really captured a discernable tone/atmosphere/feeling/etc.
Lots of grammar errors were limited to a few stories. Most were fine.
And also a few very nice uses of the opportunities for character and plot development within a limited timeframe.

I'll PM Rex with my scores as soon as I get home, and it'll be my top 5. I thought we were going to be marking each one and sending them to that he could tally the scores for all of them from bottom to top, but if it's only 5 then that's fine by me.

Meh, Rex's choice I guess. I thought it was just 5. I know we're not posting everyone in the results, so 5 from each judge should be plenty to determine as much as, say, a top 8 or 9.

I PMed Rex, I think I'm going to go into detail with the individuals themselves, via PM. Then it's up to them whether they want to share or not 😊

I'm telling Rex what I thought of the stories and my top picks over MSN right now...though he did kind of disappear 🙄

I must admit, the fact that several of the stories were lacking grammar, had weird POV changes, runon sentences, etc., put me off reading them. Stuff like that just really bothers me.

I'm waiting till the results are announced. Then anyone can PM me and we'll chat about their story, but I won't search anyone out.

And I'll probably post my own top 5 here once the winners are announced to show discrepencies and whatnot.

And I think Rex is just swamped so he hasn't been around because he's been putting off reading them. But in my mind there's no real hurry.

I don't mind revealing my comments to anyone who asked but I won't be revealing my scores. I'll elaborate fully for anyone who wants to know what I thought of their work in any detail 😊
