*holds sledgehammer high*
Not for long. 😈
You fell asleep reading Dune??? Hmm, I liked it. I'm reading the second book of the prequels now: House Harkonnen. It's very enjoyable, but then I like Dune. Strange enough though, I can't remember much of the sequel books, except the first one where Paul dies.... hmmmmm, I should re-read them some time.
I wanna see the Sci-Fi Channel version. Is it out on DVD yet? I got a longer version of Lynch's Dune some time ago. It had a horrible and tediously long new introduction (which caused Lynch to have his name removed as director). It takes about 25 minutes (I skipped it after watching ten minutes, it's just made with rostrum shots of paintings, really horrible). But the the movie starts, they removed Virginia Madson beautiful narration by an ugly man's voice who also does the lengthy introduction. But after that there are numerous new scenes put in place. The quality's not that great, but the I still loves the film.
Well, I checked, but the series is so far only available on DVD in the States. Sucks! Problem is, my DVD player CAN play the US DVD's so I could order it in the States, but my old TV can handle the converted signal. So I'm reluctant to buying a US DVD when I can't watch it. And I don't plan on buying a new TV now, first I gotta get me a new receiver and speaker system.
And yes, it was more true than Lynch's film. But it better, they had 6x50 minutes to tell the story. Lynch only got a little more than two hours. Yet, most people seem to agree that Lynch's vision was much more enthralling than the series. I still wanna have it though.
There is a 3-hour version out on DVD, crappy quality though, but it's nice to see a lot of scenes never before shown. The much rumoured 9 hour version was never made as far as I know... 🙁
Replacing my collection is extremely expensive, I will only build towards it slowly. I have almost 700 titles in my collection, so that's almost impossible. I may be transferring a lot of it to DVD once the recorders become available. It won't add to the quality, I know, but at least I can get rid of the tapes. I'm running out of physical space for it. Transferring the lot to DVD (if there is enough room for two films on one DVD) may help me reduce the volume to 50%. But that's all in the future. No more new VHS's for me now.
It's huge in the US, like 25% of the population now has a DVD player. Blockbuster just recently started renting out DVD's, and it's impossible to rent them because they are always checked out! That SciFi Dune was really big in the US too, it was the highest rated program in the history of the SciFi channel. They even showed trailors in theaters way back in December.
