EPIII theory

here it comes:

Mace Windu:
a member of the JC. He is deeply concerned about a new disturbance in the Force. He senses darkness where others see only light.CUT: I see....

GL: In The Phantom Menace one of the Jedi Council members already knows the balance of The Force is starting to slip, and will slip further. It is obvious to this person that The Sith are going to destroy this balance. On the other hand a prediction which is referred to states someone will replace the balance in the future. At the right time a balance may again be created, but presently it is being eroded by dark forces. All of this shall be explained in Episode 2, so I can't say any more!

There are a few things here to consider. Firstly, and most obviously, Lucas says that one of the council members knows the balance is starting to slip - this confirms that someone in the council knows more than the rest of them. It makes the most sense that this council member would be either Yoda or Mace Windu, but because Windu is the only one who refers to the balance of the Force in Episode I, I think he's more likely to be the one questioning the stability of that balance.

Secondly, I think Lucas slipped in this interview and let us know more than he intended. Did anyone else catch it? He says "It is obvious to this person that the Sith are going to destroy the balance." Does the word "person" not indicate that the one who's aware of the Sith is a human? There is only one full-human on the council: Mace Windu. Lucas has never reffered to an alien as a person before, so I think he slipped a little there.

note: Adi Gallia is also fully human

If it was an alien, what word would he have used instead of person? I doubt he would have used anything different. He would call Yoda a 'person' same as anyone else.

I have to agree with Ush on that point.

don't blame me! I just copy-pasted it from aldera.net

There is an interveiw with Samuel L Jackson in this months UK Star Wars magazine and he says something about this -

Talking about Mace:
"He knows the war is coming. I think he has a pretty good idea of who is behind it, but nobody is willing to just step up right now and say exactly who the bad guy is."

So I think that confirms that it's Mace who knows.

Then he says something interesting about the relationship between Mace and Yoda -

"Everyone has a secodary position to Yoda in some way. We're all under him. We aren't as intuative , we aren't as strong mentally, and we aren't as strong spiritually. Yoda is incorruptible."

" Yoda is definatley the stronger and smarter and more spiritual of the two."

He's says that Yoda is stronger and smarter and incorruptible. Does that mean Mace is corruptible?

no, think not...

But I find it strange that Mace is the head of the JC and not Yoda...

Yoda may have been head for 100 years at some point, for all we know, and decided it was time to let someone else have a go.

Yeh, when you can live to be 1000, there is no problem with letting a human lead the Council for about 20 years. 🙂

we know now that Mace knows something more, but will it be relevant; I mean that you could guess who the bad-guy was in TPM, even QGJ told them!

Qui-Gon told them Palpatine was the bad guy? When?

If Mace knew the war was coming and that the balance was going then why didn't he say anything to Yoda and the rest of the JC? Remember Lucas said that is was only one of the JC that knew. Why keep it a secret?

I ment that QGJ said he was attacked by a Sith

Well, if Mace is a traitor. Obi-wan will knock him on his ass!! 😉

since when was mace head of the council

The fact that someone in the JC knows about this, doesn't mean he is a traitor. He could have seen it through the Force, but has not been able to pin the who and what about it.

It's said in the EU; and he has a different seat than the others; Yoda and Yaddle not included

I agree with you Queeq but then why wouldn't he tell the other JC members or even just Yoda? If Mace knew that the balance was slipping in TPM and didn't say anything then it's suspicious.

perhaps the one who brings balance to the force was more important to him?

Perhaps. But what's the point.

"Look, Yoda, I feel the balance of the Force is slipping."
"Details you give me, yes."
"I don't know any details."
"Who disrupt the balance will?"
"Dunno, dude, maybe it's these Sith guys."
"What Sith guys talk about do you?"
"The ones we can't find."
"Ah.... how prevent balance from slipping can we?"
"Don't know, I think we need the chosen one."
"You think this boy it is?"
"Might be, don't know."
"Why tell these things tell me, when know nothing do you!!!!"

yeah something like that 😄

I think the best guess is that in EpII he will be the good guy and in EpIII he will reveal his thoughts too late...

Maybe. But then why would Lucas (who usually gives nothing away) tell everyone that one of the JC members know?
