Encyclopædia discussion
Up in the Matrix Encyclopædia thread, there are a few things we cannot agree upon and some things that needs to be cleared up. Don’t worry. We make a NEW version of the encyclopædia, when the time is right.
1) The actual number of ships, names and captains/crews. Does ANYONE know, with certainty, how many ships the rebels have? 12 landing docks does not mean there are only 12 ships. Some are out on a mission, others can be docked.
Any references from good sources would be appreciated.
2) At the end of Revolutions, was the Matrix Reloaded?
This event is described by the Architect in Reloaded, as the One returning to the Source, the anomaly is disseminated in said Source and the prime program reinserted. After which the One is supposed to chose 23 people from the Matrix and rebuild Zion.
Since Morpheus in Reloaded tells us, that the current Zion (the sixth rebuild Zion) has lasted 100 years, it’s reasonable to assume that Zion, in general, lasts 100 years from it’s rebuild until the machines destroy it again.
Since agent Smith in M1 describes the matrix is the “epitome of human civilisation” (and it takes place at the end of the 20th century), it’s also reasonable to assume that the Matrix itself runs through a cycle in he 20th century while the rebels rebuild and repopulate Zion.
The Architect tells us how many Matrices there has been.
Matrix 1.0 : “The first matrix I designed was quite naturally perfect; it was a work of art, flawless, sublime. A triumph equaled only by its monumental failure.” (also described by agent Smith in M1.)
Matrix 2.0 : “Thus, I redesigned it, Based on your history to more accurately reflect the varying grotesqueries of your nature. However I was again frustrated my failure.” The Architects second attempt.
Matrix 3.0 : ” The answer was stumbled upon by another and intuitive program, initially created to investigate certain aspects of the human psyche.” The Matrix we know.
This would mean, that the Matrix we’re in could be called Matrix 3.5 as Neo is the sixth One.
At the end of Revolutions we see the Matrix being repaired, as evidenced by the deja-vu cat. However, there is no sign the setting has in anyway changed BACK in time. This supports the idea, that the Matrix was NOT reloaded, merely repaired, so that we’re still in Matrix 3.5.
