Le Diable Blanc
I know this isn't a pic, but it needs saying.
Right, let's clarify once and for all how Gambit and Rogue lose their powers (in the Xtreme X-men universe anyway):
Gambit was captured by a collective wanting to bridge their world with ours. They needed him in particular because his power allowed him to hold tremendous amounts of energy, thus they could make him a conduit to create a portal from their realm. Invaders would then pour through that portal and the world as we know it would cease to exist. With me so far?
Now Gambit knew that couldn't be allowed to happen, so summons enough strength and a lil bit of mutie energy to destroy one of the supports of the chamber he is in, he figures if he is crushed to death the portal doesn't open, therefore he saves the whole shebang, a noble sacrifice. Rogue, however, has other ideas. She is being pursued by a fellow named Vargas as she and the rest of the Xtreme X-men search for the Books of Destiny that foretell the future. Vargas, the guy with the big sword (who, sorry to spoil it, kills Psylocke and very nearly Beast earlier), just catches up with Rogue as she is trying to free Gambit. The rest of the X-men, in an effort to avenge their fallen comrades attack Vargas. Gambit, Rogue and Vargas are all in the chamber when it all tumbles to the ground. When the dust settles Vargas is gone, but Rogue and Remy are skewered through with the sword. They're barely alive, but alive nonetheless. The injury sends Rogue's powers haywire, she starts to mutate into all the people she has ever touched, Colossus, The Hulk, Logan (whose healing factor saves her life), etc, etc, and finally Psylocke, as whom she goes in search of Vargas. Gambit is flown to hospital, where he is shortly joined by Rogue who isn't as right as rain as first thought. Cue a dream/heaven/psychic plain sequence where Remy is walking towards the cliched white light and Rogue is pulling him back towards the land of the living. To cut a long story short they both survive, but minus their powers, and the next we see of them they are living a "normal" life together outside of the X-men, the way they both kinda always wanted to.
Hope this clears the waters somewhat.
