Jem sat through the intro to Theater before raising her hand and asking to be excused to the restroom. "Ok, I know I told myself I'd try not to ditch as much as last year, but that was just ridiculous," she said outloud to herself. She went outside into the courtyard and searched for her pack of cigarettes. "Ah, shit." She cursed, pissed to only find one cigarette left. She would be 18 in a few months, so she had to constantly beg her 19 year old cousin, Lindsey, to buy her some. She was seriously trying to quit, but it was definitely easier than it looked. She searched for a lighter in her bag, but couldn't find one. "Damn..." She got up to go find some stoner who would have one.
Jem jogged over to where the stoners hung out. "Jemmm, ma girl," Jem laughed at her friend Ray as he offered her a light.
"Thanks." She smiled and took a seat on the bench.
"How have you been?" Ray asked her.
"Eh, pretty okay. Kinda bummed about summer being over though." She shrugged and stared off into the distance.
"Yeah, me too." He said, running his hand through his hair.

She nods automatically as he speaks. Can't breathe? She asks herself. She throws the amonia into the road then reaches to lift up his shirt. Lungs! She saw the eyes and the crashes and the hint of bruise across his shoulder. She just matched the clues. She nearly fell back at the sight of the black and blue and hint of green across his chest. "Ohmygod." She whispered to herself, clasping her hand over her mouth as she let his shirt fall.
"We need to get you to the hospital!" She said hurriedly as she began to move him to the passenger seat. "Ohh. Bad idea." She told herself, standing up and began to think. She walked over the the other side of the car and began to lightly pull him to the seat.
Once she got him, she made her way to the other side again. "Hey! What are you doing?!" The peering eyes from the blinds revealed himself. He was waving his fist and walking quite fast.
She ran into the car, pulling the door shut quickly. She turned the keys. Then jerked the car forward a bit. "Damnit. Sorry." She cursed to herself then apologized as she heard him weeze. She pulled the car forward and began to drive, watching as the man chase them down the road. "What is he doing?!" She mumbled seemingly to no one.
Reality untensed once she was sure that the man had stopped chasing them. She sat back and stopped at a red light. She looked over at the boy. "You're Nate right?" She asked. Before she let him answer she leaned over him to drop his seat down. So he could breathe a little better hopefully.
"Was that...who...what just happened?" She asked then stepped lightly to go on green.
"that..was ..my..nevermind you have to...turn aroun......"
Nate blacked out once more and fell on the dash really hard and blood can be seen coming out of the back of his head. His breathing looks slow and painful.
((that would be me i aint crapped out my dad beat the crap outta me))
"Uh, no.Somethings up wth your lungs and you have a giant gash on your head. You're going to the hospital boy." Reality took a glance at him when his head fell to the dashboard. She stopped at another red light then took a good look at him.
"Shit." She pulled a sleeve down from her jacket and wiped the back of his neck from blood. Leaning over, she examined the head injury. She sighed then pulled back to her seat. "Screw stopping. We need to get him there quick." She spoke to herself then stepped on the gas while the light stayed red.
Cars honked at her as she sped through the intersection, taking quick turns as the boy next to her rolled all over the car. She reached over with one hand and tried to secure him in a seat belt about a block from the hospital.
She spun out as a car nearly rams into her side then curses at him. "Hello dumbass, I have a dying kid in here. Mind watchign out!?" She knew it was her fault but didn't quite care at the moment. As soon as they reached the hospital, she stopped in the no parkling zone in front of the sliding doors.
"Uh, ma'am, you can't park here." A nurse came out.
"I don't think that really matters right now." She told her as she kept herself ducked in the passeneger doorway. "Come on kid. I need your help a little. Wake up please." She lifted him up from the car seat, which was sticky with blood. "Ugh." She dug her arms under his armpits and tried pulling him out.
Fortunately, the nurse had saw his state and ran in for some help.
