USH'S MATRIX GAME- General Discussion

Started by Lana94 pages

I don't think we ever saw the original Preying Mantis.

Only thing that's got me annoyed at the moment is the having to be under the encumberance for certain powers. If that makes sense.

PM was quite nasty. Jordan says he's slapping my Xiao Emo fight into the Mors story since it was a crucial thing, so you'll get to see how bad I got smacked down.

Not to mention the Xiao Emo's powers of making me look stupid. ermm

Claw of the Mantis Focus cost: 5 Frame cost: 1
You must be using Sais to use this power. Defensive Action. Increase your Dodge by one. If the attack fails and your attacker is using a melee weapon he is considered blocked. You get a free Sai attack on the attacker. This is a Reflex attack. Inflates
Prerequisite: Hand of the Mantis

Laughter of the Mantis Focus cost: 3 Frame cost: 0
You must be using Twin Swords to use this power. Can be used only when someone declares a Reflex attack on you. Your opponent loses his attack, and instead you can make a Twinned Swords attack with the same effect on him.

Unstoppable Mantis Strike Focus cost: 1 Frame cost: 3
This can only be used if your opponent is using a melee weapon. You must be using Sais.

Prerequisite: Double Mantis Hand

Unending Mantis Strike Focus cost: 2 Frame cost: 1
This can only be used if your opponent is using a melee weapon. You must be using Sais.

Prerequisite: Unending Mantis Strike (Restricted)

Retreat of the Mantis Focus cost: 1 Frame cost: 3
You make a flurry of attacks with your Hooked Swords to force your opponent to evade and give you a chance to retreat. Make a Hooked Sword attack. If you opponent uses a Defensive Action, you may move up to your Agility away from your opponent. If you move in this fashion, this counts as a Move action this sequence. This is a limited attack.
Prerequisite: Bite of the Mantis

Grip of the Mantis Focus cost: 2 Frame cost: 1
This attack uses the hooks of your weapons to tangle with your opponent’s weapon or arm, and you hold him there. Make a Hooked Sword attack. This attack succeeds automatically but deals no damage. Your opponent cannot leave combat or attack you for the next three frames (if you use Grip of the Mantis on Frame 5 your opponent could not attack you until Frame 2). However, the same limitations are imposed on you. While you are both in the Grip of the Mantis you may use any Fu power which contains the text “until end of sequence” for a Frame cost of one (Focus cost is as normal). Grip of the Mantis can only be used once a Sequence. Note this still counts as an attack for purposes of Blocked status or Reflex attacks (though a Reflex attack would be cancelled).
Prerequisite: Retreat of the Mantis

Arm of the Mantis Focus cost: 2 Frame cost: 3
You link your two weapons together and swing them like a chain, making it difficult to defend against. Make a Hooked Sword attack. If you opponent uses a Defensive Action, he must pay an extra frame to complete it. If he cannot pay then the Defensive Action is cancelled. This is a limited attack. You cannot use Unyielding Grip of the Mantis to repeat this power.
Prerequisite: Grip of the Mantis

Unyielding Grip of the Mantis Focus cost: 2 Frame cost: 0
As your opponent tries to defend, you use the hook of your sword to trap his arm or weapon and pull it out the way. You then try the attack again. Can be Called. Use only in the Frame after a Hooked Sword attack missed and your opponent used a Defensive Action. If you are still in combat with that opponent, you may try that attack that missed again for no cost. This is a bonus attack that has no affect on your Frame number, nor does it count for any limited penalty or inflation of cost. Inflates
Prerequisite: Arm of the Mantis (Restricted)

Dance of the Mantis Focus cost: 2 Frame cost: 0
When you are attacked in hand-to hand combat you may respond with a simultaneous Twin Swords attack (if you are using Twinned Swords). This is a Reflex attack. This has no effect on your current Frame. This power inflates.
Prerequisite: Bite of the Mantis

Step of the Mantis Focus cost: 1 Frame cost: 0
You must be using Twin Swords to use this power. You can Call this if attacked with a Reflex attack. Increase your Dodge value by two. Inflates
Prerequisite: Dance of the Mantis

Whirling Dance of the Mantis Focus cost: 3 Frame cost: 0

Prerequisite: Step of the Mantis

Vengeance of the Mantis Focus cost: 0 Frame cost: 3
Make a Twinned Sword attack. If it is successful, you may spend one Focus to launch a bonus attack. This has no effect on your current Frame. If the bonus attack succeeds, you may spend another point of Focus for another bonus attack. This continues until you stop paying Focus or you miss. Limited.
Prerequisite: Whirling Dance of the Mantis (Restricted)

...the anti-power power indeed. 😑

That's a lot of powers...I don't recall any of the old paths being that big 😛

Oh, and, uh, yeah. Lana is annoyed.

Ah, well, some of them are specific, I see...Twinned Swords, Hooked Swords, and the like.

Yupyup.

I am a little surprised- compared to the Dojo flurrying- how little tapping has been going on in the Training Mission.

Some people with quite hefty Refresh rates have not been using them, as little or nothing is tapped when the Refresh comes. And if you don't use your Refresh rates... well, you are just worse than a Hacker.

Cloud just got a very solid untap, though.

Well, as for tapping, I've been trying to feel out the probability of refresh rates. Guess that being an All-Rounder makes me worried about tapping one side of my powers and then being faced with a situation that could have used the tapped powers.

And dang, old Preying Mantis is scary... talk about simply disabling whatever your opponent throws at you...

Looks complicated, too.

Thats cool....
I would have liked to try it.

I think the reason we're not going tap crazy is because we don't feel we need to against mooks...or something.

I did one tap, but that didn't matter since I still got murdered.

Teehee.

I haven't tapped anything simply because I haven't had the opportunity or really needed to.

Feh, it's all a learning curve...

Hey, sorry about being gone, guys. I hadn't been doing my homework for school too much lately, so my parents, without warning, shut off my internet connection. But, I'm back and I'll try to be catching up and whatnot. But right now I gotta go to band practice, so I'll post something in the Dojo later tonight or tomorrow.

Ugh, suxx0rz. We tried to recruit you for the Training Mission, too. 😛

Indeed. He wouldn't have been much use against Zuban, though. ermm

Feh. I can take on Zuban myself.

...

Nah.

You can't take on anything but mooks by yourself 😛

BB stole my quote...

Hey, it was the first thing that came to mind.

So, Zink got to see the old Preying Mantis...

I remember being all 'Ooo, aaah' when I heard about the old Silver Prince. Did that ever get fleshed out under v2.6? 😛
