Well, Melkor was nerd, some king of "rebel intellectualist type" who found some genuine anti-System conspiracy sites( I think some conspiracy theories are actually genuine in the Matrix, since at the end goverment serves the System as represented by Agents). He might have participated in some movements, but he was not one for physical action. He never had much to do with girls though, he may be more intelectually than emotionallly mature.
