The Beatles

first off...as much and AC and i have had some heated debates in the past mostly about music...he is 100% right about the beatles

they wrote simple catchy songs...they had a **** load of hype topped with a sprinkling of talent...

i think if they got anything right it was perfect timing particularly with the american market..they were gasping for american music regurgitated by British bands and then sold back to them...kinda reminds me of the scene in fightclub about the soap. the "selling their fat asses back to them"

there were far better and more innovative bands around both in the sixties and nowadays

i said in another forum that there are 3 things that wont happen until hell freezes over

1: people will never realise that the lord of the rings films are utter pish
2: people will never realise that sati is the one
3: people will never realise that the beatles were actually crap

Ok, with that last post this guy has prooved that he doesnt have any clue on what he is talking about. I wont entry in this kind of discussion with people like this guy.

You won't enter any discussion with anyone who knows more than you. At least BobbyD is saying things in a readable manner and have a debate with.

You literally sit there churning out the same BS time and time again to everyone. I've said this to you before and you tried to come at me with it. If you can't handle the fact that you're out of your depth, stay out of the ocean.

Bakerboy, there are eqauls, but too few.....

Simon & Garfunkel?
Paige/Bonham/Plant?
Entwistle/Townsend/Daultry?
Fleetwood/McVie?
The Beach Boys?
Floyd?
The Doors?

...after that it gets slim, and you're talking about soloists

Talk about a blinkered, stuck-in-a-time-warp view of music.

Jeez.

AC, perhaps then it is my age that has distorted my perception of today's music.

We shall have to agree to disagree, I suppose. 😉

if you dont want to discuss them then stop making so many threads about them

go broaden your horizons beyond what the majority of idiotic "critics" tell you to like

you'll find huge numbers of artists with far greater song writing talent than mcartney or lennon

"i am the egg man...i am the walrus...coo coo coochoo"

total bollocks

About the centaury post, i dont care about that. My discussion with this guy ended some posts ago.

And about Boby, i dont think that any of those duos are comparable to the Lennon-Macartney one. Maybe the one who could be closer would be the Jagger-Richards one .

It's a shame really, because you're missing out on a lot of amazing music that could more than likely enhance your life more than those older bands. You look back on times of past and the music of said time, and think about those "golden" ages. What you fail to realise is that if you bothered to notice there are better bands now, you could have it just as good. It doesn't need to stop at nostalgia.

I can't change that for you though.

Man , what are you talking about?. I dont care critics opinion, i have my own opinon. But if you see the opinions of the majority of the specialized magazines, you will see that the beatles are the best band ever by the majority of people from those magazines. The same with people who are in this bussiness.

Tell me what artist is a better song writter than lennon or macartney, who beasides were in the same band.

You are posting bullshit in your last sentence. Surely if i tell you that a song only contains the sentences: " i cant get not, satisfaction. And i try. " it sounds like a bad joke, but if you listens it, its great. Same with the beatles and another artists songs.

And by the way, i only refuse to discuss with people like centauri, who thinks that the people who arent agree with him are musical ignorants. If you see your posts, you will get a clue who is the one who is a musical ignorant, posting things that people like rush or patton are better than the beatles.

Bakerboy, I've already dealt with you once. I'm not prepared to spend my time dealing with the same stupid, pathetic arguments again.

You're ruining yourself by making those claims.

You can like The Beatles more all you want. I don't have a problem there, but when it gets into provable areas, you still claim they are better when they factually are not. I've proven this before and you ran away.

Stop saying you won't discuss with me and then mention me.

-AC

You havent prooved anything. Here are only opinons, not valid proofs of anything, yours or mine or everyone else.

No, stop saying that.

It's not opinion that Rush are more technically talented than The Beatles, that is a fact. Sorry that you don't like it, but it happens to be factually true. You can feel free to dislike this fact, but it's still a fact.

Patton is more innovative, this is also a fact. It's not my opinion, it's a fact. Again, you can dislike this all you want, but the fact is that it is just that. A fact.

We've been over this.

i never said the beatles songs weren't catchy...they are...but they are hardly shining examples of brilliant song writing and particularly not from a lyrical standpoint...and from a musical standpoint they are quite simple...

simple music with crap lyrics...really not that good song writing is it?

to be fair my last point was a bit extreme as that is probably the beatles worst lyric

but you want better bands with better song writers

the who
james brown
bob dylan
the byrds
neil young
jim morrison
morrisey/marr (the smiths)
garcia/hunter (grateful dead)
staley/cantrell (alice in chains)
curtis/sumner (joy division)

if you want modern bands

the strokes (simple music...great lyrics...far better executed than the beatles could ever hope)
counting crows (varied music...magnificent lyrics...my favourite band so granted i'm a bit biased)

Well, i think that this discussion doesnt go to any place, because we are talking about personal tastes. None of that is a fact, its only a matter of taste and opinon. For me, the beatles are the best. For centauri or jaden , not. I think that its absurd to imposse one opinion against the another, because any opinion will win.

fair enough

i just think they are wildly over rated...lets not forget the fact that much of their legendary status goes on how many screaming girl fans they had at the time

and somehow i cant see the backstreet boys or take that being considered legends in 25 years time

AC, I don't discount what you're saying-in fact I like a lot of today's music...Alicia Keyes, AudioSlave, Green Day are very talented bands/artists. I think I just weigh the history/influence side of music more than you do, while you're focused on what is great today, which could be...(grrr) perhaps some of the greatest music also.

Jaden, screaming girls help. 😛

Bakerboy, I forgot about Jagger-Richards as a songwriting tandem.
