"Night." She couldn't get the smile to leave her lips. She got out of the car and closed the door gently behind her. With one last look she went into the house, the doorman holding the door open for her. "Thanks." She told him with that same smile that wouldn't leave her lips. She was about to go up the stairs when her father came out from his study.
"Angel." He said smiling.
"Dad." She walked up to him and hugged him gently.
"What a wonderful party."
"I'm glad you liked it."
"I didn't see you though. Where were you?"
She thought quickly. "I was out.. with Ryan."
His smile grew. "That great. So, you've taken a liking to him?"
"Yeah, he's a geat guy." She felt horrible about lying, but if she told her father she was interested in a guy he hadn't chosen for her, a guy who was in a different family (mafia family, not blood family lol ), he would flip. "Well, I'm going to sleep."
"Ok princess, sleep well." He kissed her forehead.
"Night daddy."
She quickly walked upstairs and into her bedroom, closing the door behind her and changing into a silk night shirt that cut above her knees. After removing her make up and brushing her hair she slipped under the covers and went to sleep.
<<Hey ppl, I'm back. That was one long, uh, whatever went on... I hope you didn't mind, I didn't read it all. 😮 Okay, so, here I go>>
Speranza woke up and looked around. It seemed brighter than usual. She rubbed her eyes. Then it hit her. "Damn!" she swore, jumping up and running to the wall, switching off the light. Angrily, she kicked the wall.
"Ey! Don't you be ruinin' my place, you little piece of italian trash!" yelled her landlord from the apartment above.
"Shut up, b****!" Speranza yelled back, walking to her fridge. She was pissed off enough that she had left the light on all night. Her last electric bill had seemed insanely big, she was only just able to pay it. Now she figured that she would have to go without lights for a couple nights. Grabbing the orange juice, she flopped lazily into her old recliner. She slowly sipped it out of the carton.
After a while she got up and opened her front door. She leaned out and looked down the hall, where there was a large clock with a brocken face. It read 11:25, so it must have been around 8:30. Sighing, she closed the door and put away her orange juice. She walked into the bathroom and splashed some water on her face. She quickly brushed her teeth and ran a comb through her hair. She walked back to her main room and looked out the window for a while. Changing her clothes and walking out the door, she headed for the nearest payphone.
She dialed a number from the paper that Uncle Fingers had given her the night before. It rang twice, then a familiar voice answered "What the hell do you want, god dammit? It must be five in the god damn morning, for chrissakes."
"Ah, negative, Fingers. I beleive its around ten." Speranza replied smiling.
"Oh yeah? Well, the question still is, what do you want so early?" he said, his voice friendlier (sp?) by a touch.
"I'm going now, and you can come, or I can go alone."
"Huh? Oh. Alright. I'm coming."
"Meet me there in half an hour" she said, hanging up.
Angelina dryed her hair and pulled on her whtie cotton robe and slippers. She made her way downstairs and into the kitchen for a late breakfast. She took a bowl of fruit salad from the fridge and found a fork. She sat down at the kitchen table as her brother Ken walked in. He poured himself a cup of coffee and leaned against the counter, studying her with his eyes.
"And where did you disapear to last night?"
"Out." She answered simply.
"With who?"
She glanced up at him. "Why do you care all of a sudden?" She was surprised from his questions. He was never around, he was always on business in another state.
"You're my little sis, I have to look out for you."
She stood up with her fruit salad in her hand. "I appreciate your concern, but I'm leading my own life. You can't just enter and leave whenever you please."
He sighed. "C'mon Angie, you know you don't lead your own life." He said quietly. He didn't want to say it, but it was true. "Dad runs your life."
"We'll just see about that." Without saying another word she went up to her room.
Angelina laid down on the bed, looking up at the ceiling deep in thought. She wondered what would happen if she fell for Joshua. She wouldn't be able to tell anyone, they wouldn't accept him. She liked him a lot, and didn't want to cancel the date. She assumed the best thing to do was to see how the date went, and then go from there. She rolled over onto her stomach. What had she gotten herself into?
Thirty-five minutes later, Uncle Fingers showed up behind Freddy's place. Speranza walked out from the shadows.
"You ready?" she asked.
"I'm ready. Are you?" he glanced at her.
"Hell yeah. Stupid bastard tried to screw with me?" she said walking in the small door. Uncle Fingers laughed. "And no one messes with The Pipsqueek, right?"
"Shut up." she said from inside, her voice light and kidding.
