I have no idea why Marius is painting in the sunlight, to know that, I would have to see the movie again, and that's is something I WON'T! 😄 but basing my opinion on books, I would say Marius' is able to expose himself to the sun without major damage due to his many years old...
unless is told different in 'Blood Canticle'...
