A couple of minutes later they were at their exit, a public phone inside a large post office skyscraper.
“Take Kaeo and get out, I’ll guard the doors.” said Azrael, and Coder gave him a nod and started toward the phone, which started ringing. Kaeo had enough energy to place the phone to his ear, and he was out, the phone dropping as far as the cord would allow, before Coder replaced it. Suddenly a crash echoed round the building as a fist punched through the plate glass walls. Coder and Azrael turned toward the ever widening hole in the wall, and a few seconds later the phone started ringing.
“Take the phone Coder! Go!” Azrael yelled as he ran toward the hole. The lights went off, someone had cut the power. The phone stopped ringing. “Oh shit!” Azrael breathed as the agent jumped through the wall.
The agent took a moment to look around, and stood up straight before straightening his tie and pulling his suit top into position. The Azrael was upon him, with a straight punch aimed at his head.
Quicker than he could blink, the agent moved his hand to intercept the punch, gripping Azrael’s hand tight enough to break the bones. In a futile effort to break loose, he swung his other fist at the machine, which did the same. The agent’s arms were as rigid as steel, so Azrael braced himself on them, and ran up the agent’s body, kicking him in the head and using the force to propel himself backward. The agent’s neck made a audible crack as it snapped backward, and the body shimmered as it fell to the ground, becoming an old lady.
Coder was at the stairs, waiting for Azrael, who was running toward him. Out of the swivel doors poured SWAT. As the door to the stairs swung shut, a hail of bullets blew it backward off its hinges. Azrael and Coder turned to face the stairs and ran up them, leaping five steps at a time. In no time they had reached the roof. The SWAT, fit though they were, were no match for the two super-humans, and were four floors down. Around the building there were a number of higher skyscrapers, none of which they could feasibly jump onto the roofs of.
Coder considered something for a few seconds,
“The windows. If they’re floor to ceiling, we could go through them. You game?”
“Lets go!” Azrael grinned
The two rebels backed up to one side of the building and sprinted to the other side, just as the SWAT burst out of the door. They watched, astounded as the rebels leapt from the building’s edge across the road, crashing through the reinforced windows in the abandoned Pentium building opposite. One of the SWAT started to convulse, and grew taller into the form of the agent. All the SWAT took an involuntary step back as he started his run up, following the rebels.
Inside Azrael and Coder were already heading down.
As they reached the third floor a fist crashed through the wall, revealing the agent.
“No-one’s ever escaped me! I am Agent Stevens. You shall not be my first loss!” His voice declared in an angry tone. Azrael pulled two of his three knives from their sheathes, and stabbed it through the groping hand, impaling it into the wall.
