If they had intended to make a series the actors would have signed a 2 movie(at least) contract. They didnt. Only reason theres a 2nd (and possably a 3rd) is because the 1st 1 did so well.
I saw the first one 3 times in theaters (and once on a $5 Chinatown bootleg...REALLY bad quality but who CARES?). They'll either make the second one as AWESOME as the first, or it will be a total crap cash-in on the goldmine that the first one was, like Legally Blonde 2. UGH.
I doubt that Orlando will be "too busy" to make Troy - they started filming in like April, so they can't go past December at the VERY latest.
And I KNOW Keira Knightley won't be busy - her acting skills are freaking NON-EXISTENT. The only reason studios want her is because she was in Bend it Like Beckham, but that'll wear off in a while-thank god.
I don't think it is a good idea to put it out next year though - too much exposure in too little time. If they put it out the summer after next they'll have more time to build up anticipation, like the first one (I started seeing the teasers in December! 😑 ). Plus, if they rush, its most likely to be crap. Ah well. Will trust Bruckheimer with my life. 🙂
And I think that they set it up for a sequel (the title is PERFECT - Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl...Pirates of the Caribbean 2: blah blah blah...etc.), but didn't make a sequel contract because they didn't know how the first would come off in theaters. Plus, they didn't want to take too much of a risk - at the time, Knightley and Bloom were relatively unknown actors, and Depp, although GENIUS, had never really had a major blockbuster... Rush was the only certainty.
It was a good strategy - now that the first has done well, the actors will WANT to come back, instead of just being contractually obligated to...
when Disney asked the writer of Pirates if he's write another one...he said something like he had two more stories he'd like to tell about Captain Jack. So I think this is positive cuz it seems like whatever the story is...it is not really rushed cuz the author already had an idea in his head. Plus...remember Bruckheimer doesn't make too many sequels, so there isnt much chance of Pirates 2 being a sell-out.
