Then, you see Jack again, looking very worried. He is sitting in a chair at a table, leaning on his hands. A mug of rum sits on the table, but he is ignoring it. Across from him sits Gibbs, the first man .
“He’s after me, Gibbs, I know it. I’ve nearly forgotten him, but he’ll not forget me. And now Will and Elizabeth are here with us, and we’re too far come to go back. The nearest land is an island, but we can’t just leave them there!”
“how do you know he’s after you?”
“because, when I was a young lad, I stole his treasure. I was so foolish…thought I was the wisest , toughest, best pirate in the world.
*Flashback* you see a young (29) year old Jack, smiling as he sails upon a small, rough boat.. he stands at the helm, the wheel grasped in his hands as he steers the ship towards an island. The island is very small, with only a few trees, mostly beach. There is but one tiny cove in the island, almost cutting it in two. The ship enters the cove, and the wind dies down,. The ship slows and finally draws near to a halt
“Lower the anchor!” he cries. There is a splash as the anchor is lowered, and the ship comes to a dead stop. Instantly, there is more splashing as men lower the boats, preparing to row ashore.
“take your swords too,” the young Jack calls to them. Then he turns to his right. A young man about his age stands there, smiling.
“I’ve waited a long time for this day,” says Jack, watching as the men begin to row ashore. “ever since I first heard of the Devil’s Island and its mysterious treasure, I’ve wanted it. Finally, we are here.”
*flashback ends and we return to Jack and Gibbs*
“aye, I’ve heard a tale that tells of you and your young crew after the Devil’s Treasure. You got it?”
“every piece.”
“and now he’s looking for you? For the treasure?”
“ah, if only it were so easy. I lost the treasure.”
*flashback*
the young Jack’s ship is tossing in a wild storm. Rain pours down and all the sailors are soaking. Young Jack stands at the wheel, water dripping from his hat. He clings tightly to the wheel, trying to hold it steady, a task which is proving impossible. The ship suddenly tips, and the men all go sliding to one side. Jack barely manages to stay upright by pulling himself up on the wheel. Suddenly, lightning shudders down through the sky. With a horrendous cracking, the mast falls forward, burning. Jack stares up as its falling towards him, when, suddenly, the ship give as lurch, and he is thrown into the sea. As he watches, the mast crashes down onto the deck, smashing it into pieces. Jack turns away and tries desperately to stay afloat in the wild sea.
He sees a bit of wreckage and clings to it. Lightning flashes through the sky and the flashback ends. We return to Jack and Gibbs again.
