I dont know how healiung works, but I reckon it envolves magic
you have these skillpoints:
Manoeuvre (1), Weapon Skills (2), General Skills (2), Subterfuge Skills(1), Magical Skills (2),
you have the problem that you dont have 2 skill point in a category you will not use (like manoeuvre or subterfuge) that often.
so you have
2 points for magic (best is to get +5 on two things, prolly direct spells and read runes I guess)
2 for weapons (again two +5's bow and OHEW)
2 for general (again two +5's riding and .....)
1 for subterfuge (I'd use it to increase perception or else +5 on hide)
1 for manoeuvre (I'd put +5 on unarmoured)

Remember, you use the skill list from thre first page, not just the ones you start with. So the Magic Skills are Read Runes, Use Item, Directed Spells and Spell Offence.
And just to complicate things, I have just this second improved Mages and Animists.
Here are the new point allocations they get:
