They first met when Aragorn was twenty years old; he grew up in Rivendell, but during that time, Arwen was mostly in LΓ³rien. When Aragorn first saw her he called her "TinΓΊviel" (which means "nightingale" and is the name of the "most beautiful" elf ever walking through middle-earths woods, it's said that arwen looked like her)...

Why did Aragorn grow up in Rivendell? Is that how he knows the elf language? Wasn't he the heir in Gondor? How did he end up in Rivendell? When did he leave (and end up in a pub with the hobbits as Strider)?
Thanks - I appreciate the insight and the books are on their way from Amazon! I promise! π

Aragorn grew up in Rivendell because his father Arathorn died and Gilraen(his mother) fled to Rivendell because Aragorn was in danger when he was young because he, the heir of the throne.
In the FotR: EE Aragorn visits his mother's grave, in the yard in which they hold people that died in battle or of nature ends. And Elrond talks about the account in which how Aragorn got to Rivendell.
And so for about 75 years he's been known to the elves as Estel, which means Hope in Elvish.

No, he was not the heir of Gondor. Dunno why everybody thinks so. He was the heir of the kings of the Lost Realm of Arnor, but the first "real" king of Arnor, Isildur, was the brother of the king of Gondor, AnΓ‘rion (it's a bit confusing because for some years Isildur also ruled Gondor and their father was king in both kingdoms together with his sons);
When the last of the kings of Arnor died on his flight from the broken Arnor (witchy's armies took it π ) in a sinking ship, his son became the Lord over the remaining people - they werent many and had no real cities or something, but lived in the woods and raised their children in Rivendell, which lies in Rhudaur, a part of Arnor. Aragorn now is the son of Arathorn and Gilraen, but his father died when Aragorn was only two years old π π
So he left Rivendell some time after his meeting with Arwen to hunt (orcs and animals π ) in the woods and protect the remaining people living there.
