Tobi has been pretty smart through the manga dewd.

I haven't read it yet, but if the reason for why he becomes a nihilistic ******* is because he's buttmad over Rin's death, I will be furious.edit- link to the chapter, you phucks.
Good posts:
'His motivation is actually really obvious and I don't see why people have a problem with it in the context of this comic. It's all about people trying to find 'the answer' to end war and hatred in the ninja world. Pain was trying to build his big ninja death star laser, Naruto is trying to make people just understand each other, and Obito thinks the only possible answer is removing free will. Obito's methods may be evil, but he sees them as a necessary evil for the greater good like Pain did, and I don't think he really even blames Kakashi. He just doesn't think the methods other people rely on will ever be enough to work.
It's kind of dumb, but it fits perfectly with the theme of the book '
' I think as stated above, Tobi's real motivation isn't simply "Rin died," its something more consistent with the overall theme of the series, which is that basically the Naruto world is really supposed to be a crapsack world in which every country is a Military Dictatorship. This tends to result in huge wars like the World Wars (there have been four of them in what appears to be the last 50 years) which causes heavy collateral damage since most of these wars are relatively pointless - i.e. the Cloud wants to kill the Hyuga for their eyes solely to gain a military advantage. There's no real purpose to any of this other than they're perpetually pissed off for previous wars and power struggles. Obito's thing is probably that she died in one of these conflicts and that it was not necessarily Kakashi's personal fault but that the system they live under results in people getting killed all the time for no practical reason other than petty squabbles over eyeballs and revenge.
However, I think its kind of lame that they're holding it out right now that his actual motivation to feel this way was Rin dying. They weren't even together so it makes it a lot worse than Pain being upset his whole family and country were slaughtered basically by accident. Moreover, Pain's solution was being Kefka. Obito's is turning the world into the Matrix with his eyeballs. '

The part that is the problem really.

resurrect danzou, now!
(* naruto is an idiot but that's all it takes to beat his adversaries cause kishi mentally sabotages his villains)
Tobi has a very metaphysical goal, but I honestly think he' going down in this battle. The only twist I think you could work without cheapen out the character is having him succeed with the infinite eye jutsu and then make it a post apocalyptic future where Naruto, Oro and Sasuke have to fight friends and foes to reach Tobi and kick the crap out of him.
