Nope, a character named Raiga who was introduced in a filler as a character who was one of the 7 Swordsman. His appearance in the manga would make him old as shit though lol.

Im not sure that was raiga because his hair was brown in the anime

it was black n white......

Edit: Also, saw the new chapter. It was nice for a fighting one, I expected it to be waaay more boring.

8th Gate is a little underwhelming thus far.

I suppose it's because the last time Gai popped a new level of gate, he utterly shit-curbed the guy he was fighting (Kisame), which... he can't really do here.

Still, that everyone can still see him and perceive his movements is a little disappointing.

Still Guy beat the **** out of Madara in this chapter. Was nice to see. And good on the good guys for not setting back and actually helping.

I like how random teams seem to get thrown together in this series.

So, 8 Gates Gai is as fast as Bankai Ichigo.

This chapter was pretty good! And chances are, Minato is still around, though he's most likely crippled now.

Despite having a pretty tame name, Gai's attacks are pretty impressive considering this is the first time Madara's been legit hurt: not including the dicking around he did against the five Kages.

Also kudos to the other ninja for helping out and stuff.

8th gate plowed him strait into the ground, and then knocked him around repeatedly through his defensive shield via the shockwave, and is the only thing shown to hurt him so far.

The final attack is a whole series of attacks each individually well above Afternoon Tiger!

And again, doing what nothing else could.

Also interesting to note Kakashi's blind in the sharingan eye. If he didn't have the good eye, kamui'd be useless, and even so it's now a close-range technique.

Lee and gai couldve had a combo attack... Morning peacock and night elephant would be devastating to deal with

I'm not arguing that he isn't being effective, though. I'm disappointed just with how his speed is being portrayed. Kishi has historically done a decent job of illustrating when someone is moving super fast with the gates. Aside from that one panel of Gai running around Madara in circles, the only way you can really see how fast Gai is moving is by virtue of the characters saying that he's moving fast (though apparently not so fast that they can't all perceive exactly what he's doing).

The portrayal of speed in a movie or comic is a bit of a peeve for me because people tend to not do a good job of it.

Well kakashi's sharingan couldnt follow lee vs gaara so id say he could probably follow gai as well

Now that i think about it why didnt kishi let lee defeat that 30% kisame back in the earlier parts of shippuden.

I'm pretty glad that they avoided the idiocy of "moving so fast it can't be seen by the other characters". No good has ever come from such mediocre plotpoint, it only leads to powerscaling poorly or having characters jobbing in major battles 👇

It's one of the many reasons I found this chapter to be pretty satisfying. Too bad this short battle is going to end predictably by Gai dying just before being able to finish Madara off.

Pretty much makes the case against your peeve. Then again, it is a peeve.

Though the people who could perceive him moving (Lee, Madara, Minato & maybe Gaara) aren't exactly slow themselves.

I'd be more concerned with Lee tossing a kunai so fast that 8 Gates Gai had barely moved at all by the time it reached him, and Gaara's sand catching up to 8 Gates Gai. 313
