If I were writing this, I would have had the prior chapter's last few pages start with Gai's back to us as the foreground, and the landscape and Madara staring at Gai as the background. The page would be split into two panels, and that would be the top one. The bottom panel would be the exact same image, from the same perspective, except Gai's on his knees disintegrating or whatever, the landscape in the background is torn to shreds and Madara's laying on the ground beaten to a pulp.

Next page displays the reaction of the others, most of it being confusion and amazement at how they'd basically blinked and missed the entire fight.

Last page would focus on Gai making some epic one-liner as he slowly dies.

This latest chapter would start with the panel of Gai's back to us, and then the rest of the chapter would detail the actual blow-by-blow fight between the two of them, culminating in Gai temporarily crippling Madara, then collapsing. The chapter would end with Gai trading goodbyes with the rest of the party, him dying, and then the panel of Naruto awakening.

That's great n'all but how are Kishimoto's publishers (his bosses) supposed to make money off of the missing 80 chapters you just cut out?

You're right. I forgot that this fight needs to last 30 chapters, and then have 10 more chapters of flashbacks after that.

Compared to Lee's 5th gate, which lasted two chapters. 😐

sigh

how is kakashi going blind when obito has been using his mangekyou for over 12 years

it's not his eye and he's not a Uchiha?

It happened to Itachi and Madara after using ameratsu, tysukuyomi, Sasunoo, etc. a lot... i presume high level ish speeds up the process.

it hasn't been explained why Obito is immune to the blindness.

perhaps the rinnegan has something to do with it.

could also have something to do with Hashi's dna.

smh the number of plot holes in naruto increase every chapter lol.. still an awesome series and Gai is still the man.... I just with other characters like the rookie 9 got some shine. The abundance of cool leaf ninja is the reason pre- timeskip naruto was soo good.

His DNA is a crutch for the plot. It's ridiculous even if you're wrong in this instance.

Why do people think the Rookie 9 are so interesting that they deserve so much spotlight? Completed characters like Neji or Lee have no real arc to sustain a substantial presence in the manga honestly.

Granted I suppose Kishi could really have cut back on the Team 10 love to throw Team 8 and Tenten a bone.

That's why Lee's there. To throw Tenten a bone.

Neji's dead you jerkface!

To be fair, who else of the Rookie 9 really have anymore room for character development?

Ten-Ten is the only ones who's been consistently ignored for the duration of the series. Everyone else has had lots of time to shine and grow as characters (either that or, in the case of Kiba and Shino, were already pretty much at the peak of their character maturity at the series' start).

I don't understand that reasoning to be honest. People like the Rookie 9 because back then the manga was good and didn't have a ridiculous amount of flashbacks.

not every ones favorite character was Naruto or Sasuke. Mine was Rock Lee. I know some people who actually do like kiba and shino. Its the diversity of characters and fights which made Part 1 so great. as a result people became attached to the characters and dissapointed with their lack of screentime.
Even this ninja world war seemed a little lack luster. Naruto just came in and defeated everybody when it could have been the perfect opportunity to show the other characters that people loved's growth.

At least neji who was definitely a fan favorite could have had a fight before he died showing off new abilities.

look at the abundance of characters that fight in bleach. Almost everyone got a chance to show their stuff whether they be weak or strong.

That is one of the flaws that i see with shippuden and why i think part 1 as a whole was better. You have to admit the chunnin exam wa awesome all the new ninja with all these new abilities were introduced.

One of the main themes in this show youth eventually surpasses the old.To bad that hasnt really been the case

This is precisely why shoving them in our faces would have been the wrong move for Kishimoto to make.

That's because many things in the ninja world were a mystery and the major villain of Part 1 showed up to kick the series in the pants. But honestly if you don't think the Chunin Exams drag a little then you are blinded by nostalgia lol. That arc(and the Invasion arc) totaled up to over a hundred chapters. It was by far the longest arc until the War, which is actually made of 3 smaller arcs apparently, and it is not as important as some of the smaller arcs. 😛

Favorite characters do not dictate a story. My favorite One Piece character is Marco Phoenix but an arc about him being forced into the main plot would be terrible for the pacing of a manga. A diverse cast should not take priority over the main plot and pacing(unless that is what you're going for, which Kishi clearly was not with the Chunin Exams).
You're asking for fight filler lol. Naruto has, for better or worse depending on the reader, always tried to make the fights important to the characters and their arcs. Kishimoto has always used fights to either show a character growing as a person, to set up plot points, or to introduce new characters. And he usually never sacrifices his pacing for anything. If Rock Lee had gotten to fight, say, Haku would that have been cool? Yeah. If Neji had gotten to fight his dad would that have been cool? Yeah. Would each of the characters getting a fight of, say, Chunin Exam worthy length have been awesome? Yeah.
It would also utterly cripple the pacing of an arc that is already 150+ chapters.

But did you need that fight to feel the impact of Neji's death? Is it, strictly, necessary to show Neji awakening a Magekyou Byakugan in a battle only to die in battle to make the audience feel sad?

Is Bleach the same as Naruto? Nope. Does Bleach have a snails pace compared to Naruto? Yep. Granted the most recent arc is not as bad but the Arrancar Saga went on for so long with everyone and their mother getting a fight that didn't matter. It was, in my humble opinion, tedious. But Kubo inherently comes to the table with a different goal in mind. He is less concerned about the plot and more about the characters.

This has been consistent though and this generation is stronger lol.

Yeah, I misread your post.

I saw "Rookie 9" and read "Team 7", for some reason. So I thought you were complaining about Team 7. idk.

I can see the reasoning of so much attention being put on the Rookie 9 in the sense that Konoha is frankly the "protagonist village" of the story and they're the rock-stars of said village (what with so much of the story's themes being centered around coming-of-age and one generation picking up the torch from the other).

What other characters would you like to see Kishi focus on?
