You know I've been trying to figure out how long Naruto and Sasuke were actually friends for. Its just Zabuza and the Chunin exams, right? Then right after that Naruto ****s off with Jiraiya and when he comes back Sasuke runs away.
So they shouldn't even be that great friends. They've probably had less than 10 positive interactions in the whole manga.

I more meant that they literally barely spent any time together. It was maybe a few months. Yet Naruto acts like they're life partners. Naruto has been friends with most of the main cast longer than he was with Sasuke and they have all been nicer to him than he has. That's really one of my main problems with the series, I just don't buy that their friendship or Sasuke is worth it. Sasuke has literally lampshaded the fact that theres no reason reason for Naruto to care about him so damn much and that he doesn't even like or care about Naruto that much either. Which wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't basically THE biggest plotpoint in the story and Kishi keeps trying to make it into this epic tragedy between two brothers to the point where they are literally reincarnated Jesus Brothers... and I just don't buy their connection that much. Sasuke is a psychopath who barely considers Naruto close to a friend and has tried to murder him repeatedly and Naruto is obsessed over Sasuke based on very little actual interactions. I can't sustain my emotional investment in that.
Most of the boys nearly died in the Sasuke Retrieval arc too, just because Naruto asked them to help him save Sasuke's dumb psycho ass. Naruto never sucked them off.
Jeez, this became a rant. I'm sorry. I suppose I'm reflecting on everything since it's ending soon.
Sasuke and Naruto both had something in common to bring them close (Being little orphan shitheads), and they also fought and bled together.
There have been soldiers throughout history who knew each other for less time than Sasuke and became the closest of bros despite that.
Sasuke hasn't actually tried to murder Naruto that often to my recollection.
Naruto stopped being great to me around Naruto vs Pain, picked back up for Sasuke vs Bee, then rapidly descended into stupid. Has it had its moments since then? Oh, absolutely. Some very good ones. And great concepts, that were horribly, horribly executed. I'll still miss it when it's gone. Been watching and reading it since the 6th grade or so.

The only reason Naruto's homo-eroticism for Sasuke isn't poorly written is because Naruto is all but confirmed to basically be a high-functioning autist at this point. 👆

And still, if all you need for such a friendship that borders on obsession is to bond during the battlefield and near death scenarios, Naruto should have closer relationships to the rest of the Konoha 11.
Gaara and Naruto feel a lot more like bros than Sasuke and Naruto ever did and I'm not even sure if Gaara and Naurto had a positive interaction in all of part one.
Naruto is just another one of Sasuke's fangirls, fawning over him just because he's popular and talented.
Just realized rereading the end of this chapter, Naruto's Kyuubi cloak was transforming into Ashura's.
The 3 shadow clones merged, making it so it has 6 arms and three faces, and the tails were merging together into a robe. No doubt about it...
Really, though. Naruto is under-using his Tailed beast's nature types, and Sasuke is underusing the 6-paths jutsu.
