The difference between his mastery of Rasengan and Sage Mode is quite large.

Well this has to put a damper on Danzou's plans. No village, Tsunade still alive, Naruto back. He's just out of luck big time. Assuming he's still alive being underground when Konoha was turned into a huge crater.

He didn't master it. He is what I would call a proficient user. There's still the whole gathering of natural chakra while moving thing that he's got to master first.

No, it is not.

3. Yet Jiraiya was able to master Rasengan and add his own innovations into it, he never mastered Sage mode to the extent Naruto has.

He did in one week what Jiraiya did not accomplish in 30-40 years, compared to Jiraiya's assertion that it takes one year to master Rasengan and Naruto being able to use it in a week, it is far more ridiculous.

No, it is on par if you consider the personalities of the characters. That was the point of that plot device by Kishi. Jiraiya and Orochimaru's relationship was often compared to the Sasuke/Naruto relationship, Oro was a natural genius and was considered to be more talented than Jiraiya, but through hard work Jiraiya cemented himself as worthy of the title of Sannin and one of the strongest ninjas in Naruto.

Naruto beating an Uchiha is bad? That will be worth seeing Naruto become powerful so quick.

I have a feeling Naruto is going to lose this fight, but barely. He's spending too much time fighting the summons which was also Jiraiya's problem. Probably he'll be winning until all the bodies start ganging up on him.

On the other hand, if he wins that's not bad for Pain given that Naruto had an entire attack force of frogs with him.

Did Naruto even train a week at the mountain? Everything seemed to pretty much happen closer together. Naruto didn't leave until about the time Sasuke fought Killer Bee, and then after that fight was over Pein was at the village.

Yes.

Jiraiya never fully mastered the technique. Couldn't be for lack of talent.

Also, it is quite clear that the writer wanted to use the theme of new surpassing old and that's really the only thing there is to it.

That's your opinion. Naruto has mastered many things on more than one occasion.

You don't know how long it took jiraiya to get to where he was with sage mode. Jiraiya may have stopped the training right as he got to where he did with the toad sages. We simply don't know.

I disagree. I think you're over rating Pain. Also, Naruto isn't using just one week's training. He's using all of his experience. Rasengan didn't come from that one week of training with the toad sages. Chakra control didn't come from that one week of training. Sage Mode certainly helped to amp everything, though.

Naruto will lose as soon as he's used up the natural chakra he collected...I figure that's how Kishi will end it.
