I doubt it'll be bigger than his Konoha destroying attack. Why would he kill hiimself to do it if he has a stronger attack...he can just move a little closer to use. Its probably more of bijuu control since he did create the extraction jutsu. Since there won't be another way to stop 6-tails. Shodai's necklace broke after all.

And Pein didn't need to let Kakashi, Chouji, and Chouza live but they didn't die automatically. He stepped up his game a bit but Chouza only died because Chouji shouldn't be in a fight without being Butterfly Chouji. Just like Kakashi's reason he died.

@Leon - It's really not fair to compare the two. Pein's is more of a force pushing everything away while Naruto's is more of an actual explosion. Though the explosion is probably stronger but I don't really know.

Well against Deidara, it didnt seem instantaneous. Its not like kakashi will just look at pain and pain will vanish. A whole seemed to open in which Deidaras hand was sucked in. The suction itself wasnt even instant as we could see Deidara and naruto even commenting on the technique (mental comments). Then considering that the technique is one that relies on suction/attraction and shinra tensei has to do with repulsion then it would be the best bet to counter it. Also pain was able to use shinra tensei to nearly kill all the huge frogs. If he had been serious about it neither Kakashi,chouji or chouza would have survived his first attack. Pain later decided to kill kakashi specifically because he deemed him a powerful opponent. If he had encountered another powerful person like gai, he could have also deemed it necessary to kill him as well.

Thats what i mean, it sucks people in which though admittedly isnt long (few seconds at most) but still it isnt just that kakashi looks at u and u dissapear. Also kakashi cant keep the hole open for very long(few seconds) and so pain could use a powerful shinra tensei to counteract the initial suction and then get out of the range of the hole. though i agree that if kakashi waiting for pain and then using the attack would likely be effective
And oh then i also agree that if he had fought in the same way if against kakashi and higher level ninjas like gai he would have been injured
