There isn't anything to suggest the Sharingan didn't come from the Byakugan. I'm sure a whole lot more happened before like 120 years ago. The first people to get the MS was Madara, and that's how that came to be. There was time to get a clan of Sharingan users also. But still Byakugan could've still mutated to the sharingan. All we know for sure is that the Sharingan has been around for at least 120 years.

Sasuke needs to go have kids with Hanabi..when she gets older. Because I like Hinata to much to say her. Then the kid could have the insight, and scouting power of the Byakugan, and then the genjutsu power of the sharingan. Add the prediction ability and the Gentle Fist Style. Now that would be somebody nobody would mess with.
After all in an interview Kishi did say an Uchiha/Hyuuga offspring would have a byakugan in one eye, and sharingan in the other.
and i was joking when i said that about sharengan, and i like your theory, that would make sence. Itachi giving Naruto, the one guy he knows will never betray Konaha, a way to get out of Madaras genjutsu.
