How is Pein's past only filler? When it's been setup since last chapter? And yea the dog wasn't the reason...It was just one thing on top of everything else that has happened. And it's obvious Nagato and Yahiko would be angry that the dog died but Yahiko's goal didn't suddenly come because of the dog nor is that Nagato's second big pain. After all Yahiko grows to an adult with them I doubt the dogs death is anything when it compares to Yahiko's death.
it was about losing loved ones unnecessarily which is a theme that has been done to ****ing death in this series. kishimoto really couldnt give him a better reason besides 'well my parents were killed then my dog died cause of a war'? last i checked the concept of 'dead family' is a point of inspiration for most of the important cast. naruto sasuke neji kimmimaro pain sasori gaara haku. notice that the villain of every arc so far is an orphan weres the originality?
..the dog isn't really the point.
im not complaining about him being an orphan im complaining about hm being a megalomaniac/mass genocidal super villain because hes an orphan, which so far seems to be his inspiration
do i have to like make a picture to illustrate the terrible cliche thats taken hold of this show?
gaara: my parents died. im mentally ****ed up now.
sasuke: my parents died. im mentally ****ed up now.
haku: my parents died. im mentally ****ed up now.
neji: my parents died. im mentally ****ed up now.
kimmimaro: my parents died. im mentally ****ed up now.
sasori: my parents died. im mentally ****ed up now.
none of you can dispute this ridiculousness,
Which we've known since the Jiraiya fight so why not complain about it then? It's not like it's suddenly a huge revelation why he's doing it?
The show has been pretty cliche since the beginning. At least character-wise. Why expect different this far in?
Um Gaara's parent didn't die to make him crazy...Actually his father trying to kill him did it as his father didn't die until Oro killed him during the Sand Invasion Arc. 😛

Well it's kind of unfair to sum up each characters background like that. They lost loved ones, but that's not all of their motivations.
Gaara is a poor example. He never knew his mother, and his dad was still alive and tried to kill him.
Sasuke's parents didn't just die. Every member of his family died. Murdered by his own brother - the one person he looked up to the most.
As for Neji - His dad did die yes, but he was more angry with the fact that the Hyuga family was split into two, whereas someone like him, with so much talent, was treated like a lower class citizen. His whole thing was "predetermination" not "I want to avenge my parents!"
So it's okay to say "Alot of the characters experience something traumatic, in which a parent or two dies."
but wrong to say "The only thing motivating these characters is that they are upset about their parents."

2. His whole clan and family died, and was killed by his brother. And Sasuke is actually not mentally all that off, emo yes, but not mentally unstable. And his new motivation is that Itachi turned out to be a soopa good guy and Konoha ordered his clan's execution, which in turn makes him even more emo.
3. His father killed his mother and he was forced to kill his father. Although this is the closest you are to being correct on this issue. Still though, Haku's mental issues revolved around the desire to feel needed by someone he loved, which was why he became Zabuza's tool(pedophilia ftw).
4. Um...No? Neji, despite being the sack of horse crap he is, did not have such simplistic motivation for his actions. Neji was not so much disturbed by his father's death, as he was bitter that he believed his father was forced to take Hiashi's place simply because of his birth, and he was also bitter of his meager existance as a branch family member, despite the fact he was among the most promising Hyuuga in abilities. And really, he was not really mentally "fvcked up," he had his gay emo angst issues, but nothing like Pain or Gaara.
5. No. Just no. Kimimaro didn't give a shit about his parent's deaths. At all. However, like Haku with Zabuza, he was drawn to Orochimaru because he desired to be needed, and Orochimaru's Michael Jackson ways converted this desire to be needed into an almost religious zealotry relationship with Oro, only desiring to further his master's ambitions.
6. True enough, that pretty much is the reason.
And Pain's mental instability is not simply from the death of his parents, he is only starting to develop the beliefs he currently holds, the full picture has not yet been revealed.
Oh, and if you ever see Isaiah again, punch him in the face for me. 😄
Wuvz you. 131

what do you think will push him over the edge? someone important dying probably

Although only Gaara and maybe Kimimaro would qualify as "psychos."
Don't get me wrong, Naruto is by no means original or brilliantly written(yet for some reason it is your cousin's favorite anime...Seriously, punch him in the nose). It's a decent enough read/watch though.
What do I think will push him over the edge? Elementary. Nagato will ask to have t3h seckz with Konan, and she will say no. Since Konan did not put out to him, in his sexual rage he will kill Yahiko and proceed to raep t3h planet, all because didn't put out.
No, I'm serious, knock his friggin lights out, do this and I shall be indebted to you forever. 😐
another thing, this show is mostly targeted to kids/teenagers, and so the strongest thing they can really do to piss people off is to kill someone off, i mean they cant really pull a berzerk and have your best friend rape your girl right in from of you after betraying all ofhis closest friends to gain power, im sure tehy could cme up with SOMETHING but it would be hard to make it relevent and not be someone dying
He came up with something different with Gaara. With the whole father trying to kill him, and the only person he thought cared for him trying to kill him and all that. And Yahiko's goal was more pushed because his country was destroyed by war. Nagato just took it up when Yahiko died it seems. Pein's origin in a way seems to be like Kakashi's.

There was nothing wrong with his sentence iirc. Yahiko was freaking out, and Nagato (that's how his name is spelt) started believing in his ideology.
