I don't think it's auto anymore. It's not like he can't use his shield to protect himself though. He was using it to also protect Temari and Kankuro.
The best part was seeing it stop Amaterasu, even if the amount of flames was pathetic.
Imo, even without Shukaku, he's more powerful now than he was when he first faced Sasuke, or even when he helped Lee out. He has more control over the sand than he did in his first major fight.

He's probably using Itachi's eyes.

that would be Eternal Mangyenko, and iirc, Sasuke refused to take Itatchi's eyes
He's probably going to need them after this fight.
Originally posted by Demonic PhoenixYea, he never used Shukaku against Deidara it was all him when he was controlling all that sand. And without autoshield he's probably been training a lot more. It'll suck to see him loose to Sasuke next chapter though because of black Susanoo.

IT was obviously Itachi's mangekyou as his eyes manifested Itachi's pinwheel instead of Sasuke's own star shaped one.
I am getting so sick of Sasuke's fight scenes... at least he used to have some variety with his snake techniques, chidori, katons, now all he does is spam MS techniques non-stop, and half the time they don't even help him win.
Originally posted by King KandyWhich were just programmed to do so, and was before he had his own Mangekyo. That is not supposed to happen with an EMS, and it has already been shown that after his first usage of Amaterasu his eyesight was being damaged, which does not happen with EMS.
...Yes, they would. In fact they bled when he used Itachi's sealed mangekyo.
Or did I misunderstand your meaning? Well to be more correct did you misunderstand mine?

Indeed. Pity Deidara had to resort to underhanded tactics to beat him, an all-out fight on neutral ground would have been great.
Remind me again, did Gaara have his secondary armor during Part 2 when he had Shukaku? It'd be interesting to see Gaara having that Sand Armor on him now, even if it'd be a burden.
yes he had his armor on. it was cracked and falling off when those bombs exploded at point blank in his face.

Exactly. What else could Itachi have given Naruto? A move or ability? Why wouldn't have Naruto used that in any of his subsequent fights? He knows about it, yes? So....is it really an ability or technique? I don't think so. Would be very selfish and lame of Naruto to have not used it.
Unless the thing is a plot device. A plot device that acts like a unique that only fits one unique lock or something. (I don't mean that literally, I mean it metaphorically.)
Something that fits well is a memory that will shed light or understand to Sasuke and change his mind or something. OR, it is a null ability that Itachi discovered. Something that would null a technique of the Sharingan's or something. To me, it points towards some sort of plot device that will culminate in a Naruto vs. Sasuke fight.

That would be incredibly gay.
While I don't feel the same as you do, I can say that the happenings in the past with Naruot would point to something like this occuring.
The whole thing with Nagato was very similar to what I posit above. Very similar, in fact. The only different is: the memory was planned for ahead of time. Naruto just "winged" it and it turned out chummy.

His WUT probably meant 'WTF is an epiphone'? Or at least, mine does.
As for your epiphany, would it be somewhat like the Naruto-4th meeting inside his head (as in requiring a specific trigger and perhaps even having Itachi converse with Sasuke somehow?)
Seeing as Itachi meant to give Naruto that power to use against Sauke (at least it is implied imo), it's most likely a plot-device that will help Naruto against Sasuke.

lol
Yeah. It's spellled epiphany. My baaad.
And, yes, I was thinking the same thing. It would be like the Naruto-4th meeting in the head.
So, yeah, it's some sort of plot-device for the Naruto-Sasuke fight, be it a memory to diffuse Sasuke, or an ability of some sort.
a funny quote from another forum about danzou's diary entries sparked by posters finding out danzou keeps one from the databooks:
"Dear Diary,
Nobody loves me. Is my appearance that gruesome? Am I truly worthy of such scorn, such hatred? Is it the gimp? The one beady eye? The hair? I bet it's the hair.
Still not Hokage,
Danzou"
