USH'S MATRIX GAME FOURTH ASSIGNMENT (PHILOSOPHY PATH)- 'The Journey'

Azrael stands, waiting.

"You are confronted here with wide evidence of mass simulation," says Melitus. "Can you tell me the differences in coding between my butler... and the chicken?"

"it's very similar to the difference between the butler and the teracote soldiers. The chicken has slightly less code permited abilities than the butler. He can move around, blending into this country environment, but he's not sentient."

"Why do you believe the chicken to not be sentient?" asks Melitus.

"I don't know. I cannot see the code, so I have no clue of the coding differnces. For all we know all your butler," Azrael nods slightly in the butler's direction "Can only serve tea, and the words we have heard him speak ae just pre-programmed, in which case the chicken may have more code. Or they may not be, in which he would."

"Assuming Rade's statement is right- why do you consider the chicken not sentient?"

"Because it is code. A simple code, at least by appeareances. Other chickens, ones programmed by the matrix, are simple, so why not this one?"

"This is the same as all Matrix chickens. I am simply trying to ascertain whether you think that chickens in general are not sentient, or simply ones in the Matrix."

"Chickens would be sententient, just not the same level of intelligence, if there were any left."

OOC
G'night Ush!

"So why do you assume, if real world chickens were semi-sentient, that this one is not?"

"This chickens' thought processes are not as advanced as ours are. Being sentient requires a level of intelligence and understanding of ones surroundings. Unfortunately for the chicken he is too simple minded or perhaps coded to be sentient. The butler is sentient because his level of intelligence is o a certain level.

Pehaps what makes the chicken a non sentient creature is its simplicity. A chicken never ponders, or could ever ponder, morals. Not only morals but his sense of being."

(Just wondering, Ush, but how far are they along?)

the code imitates the chicken from the real world. by not being sentient i mean it's not an inteligent life form.
says rade
"it doesn't have the ability to make choices, i'd say, related to our subject. That makes the difference.."

"the chicken can be as sentient as the damn butler, I have no ways of communicating with the animal so unless I get to see the code I have to take my chances..."

Melitus' question was directed to Azrael, folks, and was not really appropriate for others to answer. He was at no point asking you to define sentience, just asking why Azrael- who had said that a. it was not sentient and b. that real world chickens would be- he is trying to pin down any discrepancy.

Rade has answered simply by saying that chickens are not sentient in general, which is fine. It is just important that I know exactly what differences you think are between Matrix and non-Matrix versions (or, as I note them, a chicken or a chicken*, where the '*' indicates that it is from the Matrix).

"We are assuming, Fire," says Melitus, "that the simulation is accurate. To confront you with a chicken with the AI intelligence of a man would render these questions pointless.

"We shall return to the question of what makes a being sentient... in a little while.

"Now... tell me what you see as the differences, in general, between the chicken... and the waterfall."

[Mors, we are over halfway but it is hard to tell how long the end will take.]

is this for all of us?

Yes

"well it's basicly the same thing. The code does all the difference.
we could say though, that the code of the chicken creates an entity, it copying a living creature...whilst the waterfall is..a piece of the environment."

(Alright, Ush, just checking...)

(Just want to let all you guys know that you are lucky right now. We've got 2 men down... 😬 )

Just an answer to the question...

"I believe that this 'matrix chicken' is not sentient. It has been programmed to do certain things, but if something that was not in it's code came along, it would not have any clue of what to do. However, if a real world chicken still existed and had the same problem, it would possibly attmept to find a way around it. The real-world chicken at least has the ability to do that, if it doesn't use it."

"The code of the waterfall is probably simpler than to the chicken."
