USH'S MATRIX GAME FOURTH ASSIGNMENT (PHILOSOPHY PATH)- 'The Journey'

"Well, that is a very subjective question," says Melitus. "It is also worth noting that this is a view far more prevalent amongst humans than Machines. For Machines, all things have a purpose, and to believe that all things come to nothing would render the purpose of each of us useless, and hence we would have no reason to exist.

"Do you have any opinions on this?"

"It is an intresting thought. However, I would not like to think that my work here has been for nothing."

"Well, let me ask you something that gets to the heart of the matter," says Melitus. "Do any of you believe in such a thing as a soul?"

yes. Though that nothingness is not really ..nothingness. It's still code. so...as as real to us as anything that the matrix renders around us

"I have never really thought over the matter."

No-one can literally experience nothing but you are receiving no sensory input so this simulates nothing for you, for these purposes.

Was that yes, you believe in a soul, Rade?

And do you have any inclination to think about it now, Azrael?

Ugh, I can't think of an answer.

"I do not know. Mabye if I was to think about it, and I recieved arguements from people who do and do not agree with people having souls I could. Til then I don't know."

"Only living things have souls..."

Fair enough, Castor, but to get to the essence of the question- you do believe there is such a thing as a soul?

"yes, i belive there is a soul" answers rade

Just waiting for Fire, and for Castor to clarify...

"Ohh yes, we all have souls. I believe it is what gives us our drievs. You machines have programming, I believe us sentient beings who are not machines have souls. They are definately a reality."

"What process do you think gives humans a soul but not machines?"

"Humans are organic, machines are not. Whie we can be produces we are made primarily from organic tissue and living cells...no so with machines."

"That does not answer my question," asks Melitus. "Why does only something organic have a soul? Do flowers have souls?"

"Souls have something to do with faith, there are so many things that go into it. Partially mental, partially theoretical. To have a soul you have to go through birth I would say, flowers do not count. Another requisite for having a soul is sentients...flowers are not sentient. We have souls because we need something to drive us. Thats what a soul does."

"So you say there is a soul, but only sentient beings that are born in a biological fashion have them?"

"Souls don't exist there is no prove for it"

the same process that makes us alive, and machines not.

Define 'alive' Dexx. If you mean organic, Melitus will ask you the same thing as Castor.

If you mean literally alive, then I will simply have to remind you that it is a lynchpin of the Matrix films that artificial life has been created, so they ARE alive.
