I thought the movie was alright. About 3½ outta 5 stars. During my time in the US Army, my sergeant made us watch this movie, The Last Castle, and sadly Major Payne. I can't say it really shocked me since I was going in to be a medic anyway and didn't see anything unexpected.
It's sad how much the media misinforms people on what really happens. Following the war back in the early 90's, society here really missed alot because of some jerk's idea of what we should and shouldn't see. They always make it sound like we are supermen (no doubt Rangers and Marines are almost as close as it gets) and nearly invincible, which makes 9/11 so much more a wake up call.
I like it because of the reality it shows. It throughly demonstrates the strength and weakness soldiers feel no matter how well they are trained. It also pinpoints some of the asinine behavior that superior officers demonstrate on a daily basis.
For the life of me I can't figure out how they landed such idiots in the zone. I was almost begging for the two guys with the deaf soldier to get sniped because of their ignorance in planning the run cover. Hesitation isn't an option when the guy manning the 50 goes down. Get up there and take over NOW!
