okay so im a lonely phoenix kid stranded in london, and today i just went down to the store to get some pop tarts when this big guy comes up to me and goes (i quote) ''oi blad, bus me a fiver....safe''

and i was like WHAT THE F**K??? is this guy speakin english? well anyway can someone who knows about british slang translate it for me? 😕

and "oi blad/blood" just means "excuse me", only a little bit less formal 🙂

yeah, the "blad/blood" thing is derived from patwa, which is the way in which black ppl used to talk, you know, from jamaica. other words include "blaclah" and "bombaclah", meaning "nasty" and "****ing shite" or sumthing like that!! oh and also, "tay-oh-bitties" which means sumthing like "nice baps"!!

i have no ideas how to spell the words, but i used to live with three African guys, and they were always chatting like that. the funny thing is i used to talk like them, without realising, and i musta sounded soooo stupid, coz i'm white, female and british!!!!

oh, and the "bus me a fiver" bit was him just askin you to give him money, like "bust me", musta meant "give me"!

u shoulda said sumthin in US slang and laughed at the look on his face!!

Well, i'm from sunderland in England, but i'm still known as a geordie, and i have to say, people from the north-east have the best words. I'll give you a few translations-
Canny= Good, alright, 'kind of'
Bugger= something you call a mischevious, naughty person
Mint= Great!
Scruff= Dirty person, disgusting; etc.
I'll give ya more if ya want them... 😊
