The reverse is actually true. Ppl need to actually want to discuss WITH you first for conversations to start. And a dick attitude would make most ppl feel that it would be a waste of time.

Dude. I know. Geniunely trying to just let you know that if you do approach with a bit less cynicism (for lack of a better term) towards us relgious-y folks, you might be surprised how we're not all the same and some of us can be quite logical (as we are individuals, not a stereotype). Or at the very least the conversations would be fun, light hearted and interesting (hopefully anyway).
Give it a try. Or don't. Up to you really.

I guess in truth sometimes I still feel a slight shock when I see intelligent people believing in certain religious events.
And that on individual level it's actually often centered on purely emotional stuff, arguments like, "a priest was mean to me so now I don't believe in God,' or "my daddy left my mommy so now I hate the big daddy too (God)." Silly.
BTW It was my cynic side getting the better of me.

Surter, I don't take your comments as being 'dickish'. I welcome any discussion. We tend to agree on many political issues. But, we completely disagree about God, and religion in general. Overall, I think you are a good guy and a decent poster. You seem to have decent incite on many issues and that reflects in the quality of your posts. With that said, I won't bash you for atheistic beliefs. Please reciprocate in kind.

Actually, I came off a bit dickish above, but...often times it's how it looks to me.

I get that dude. I really do. As with many of us who believe in religion, we understand how difficult it is for those who do not to understand the logic of our choice.
The closest way I can explain it is that Faith is an emotional connection. That trying to discuss it within a logical framework would not give it justice. I can go deeper into my "logic" (for lack of a better term), but I understand how ppl don't like sermons either, so I will leave it at that for now.
Wherever the hostility/cynicism you have about religion comes from, it did not come from us. We are individuals as much as you. Give us a chance (or don't, up to you). Approach us as equals and ask us why we are, what we are. Who knows? We might just surprise you.

Evolution is a falsifiable, observable theory that the vast majority of the scientific community accepts as fact. Idunno what the debate is from page 1 till now but it really can't be substantial anyway.
The theory of evolution is great as long as someone presents a better scientific theory, confirms the existing theory even more, or falsifies it.
Science is about the progress of thought. There should be no dogmas.
Now, on the topic of religion vs. science.
There is a false conflict between the two popularized here, as both deal with completely different fields of human endeavour (that at times may overlap, but do not collide).
I agree with dadudemon's post on the matter (I am too lazy to find it now). Modern Christians are very comfortable with the idea that evolution was the way organisms transfomed and adapted. It can be easily seen as a tool of God.
