Darth> I did some research into the topic once. And came up with zero evidence to suggest Jesus ever really existed… There is none. I consider it far more plausible that the Roman Empire was in desperate need of some strengthening factor. You know “One Rome, One Emperor, One God” kinda thing. Looking around they found the Jewish teachings and their one god, but the circumcision thing was a little too much – so voila: Judaism 2.0.
That would explain the mix-up of dates with Herod and the man-count, and why no Greek or Roman scholar ever wrote a line about this “Jesus.”
There may’ve been some rebel-leader… Heck, maybe “Life of Brian” is closer to the truth than we know 😄

If you haven't read the Da Vinci code, you should, I think you'd really like it. Interesting that there isn't any evidence outside of the bible proving his existence. I don't know if you've seen it or not, but there's this banner ad at the top of some threads in here for a movie called "The Beast" about this very thing--a young, Christian girl who discovers Jesus never existed.
Darth> “The Da Vinci Code”? It sounds interesting, I’ll see if I can find a copy some time. I haven’t heard about “The Beast”, sounds more like a thriller, than a drama, though. 🙂
As for “proof” of the existence of Jesus. Christians commonly refer to the Jewish historian Flavius Josephus, Cornelius Tacitus, Suetonius, etc. But look here http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/scott_oser/hojfaq.html
Or here http://www.infidels.org/library/historical/marshall_gauvin/did_jesus_really_live.html
Actually it doesn't look like it, you can see the trailer here:

oh and TO... I'm gonna collect a failure on thursday, I'll spend my extra time I get asking about this 🙂
(the prof teaches historiography)
On the history channel, one of the acclaimed historians provided his interpretation of the story of Moses leading his people across the red sea. He said that the scriptures were misinterpreted to say that they crossed the red sea when in fact it was the reed sea which was only three inches deep. He did not refute any other part of story. So is this to say that Pharos army in hot pursuit of Moses was drowned in three inches of water?
It is laughable to insinuate that the bible is not filled with inconsistencies. Because it is. But to say that historians have all the answers is also laughable. The scope of history is much too large for any one group or person to have an all conclusive “answer.” When an answer is given, it is usually met only with more questions.
Think> Absolutely. Historians and archaeologists are scientists. They must base their theories on proof and evidence. And some things have been lost during the ages. But historians and archaeologists will change their theories when faced with new evidence and new findings. Religious people don’t do that. I can prove clear faulty translations and misinterpretations in the Bible, but that does bot mean the book will be re-written.
So when it comes how life evolved and where it came from, it is not only stupid, it is dangerous to claim it is all in one single book.
